Intel's 10-nanometer Tiger Lake processors have one of the fastest CPU architectures available in Windows notebooks today. That's not to say they've got the fastest overall CPUs, though. There are competing mobile processors available with more cores and support for additional threads that are better suited for complex, multi-threaded tasks. It does, however, mean that right now Intel's single-threaded performance in Windows notebooks is king. It only makes sense, then, that Dell would want to bring Tiger Lake to its XPS 13 2-in-1 family as quickly as possible, because fast single-thread performance translates into a snappy, response experience, which is something everyone wants. The world's... Read more...
The last few weeks has been full of exciting product launches, and it seems like it might not let up for the next couple of months. One mammoth release among them is the emergence of Tiger Lake, Intel's 11th-generation Core processor lineup for notebooks and 2-in-1 laptops. We've already looked at Intel's reference platform, and the performance was impressive. It wasn't just single-threaded processing power that set Tiger Lake apart from the competition, either. Its graphics performance, which comes from an integrated GPU based on Intel's Xe graphics architecture, was pretty stellar.  We were eager to get our hands on a retail-ready Tiger Lake notebook to put the newest from Intel through... There has been a flood of Tiger Lake leaks over the past several weeks (and months, really), and it does not look like they are slowing down. Case in point, a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop sporting an Intel 11th generation Core i7-1165G7 processor with Xe graphics in tow has made another cameo in the Geekbench database. The Core i7-1165G7 is an unreleased Tiger Lake-U processor for ultrathin and light laptops. It is built on Intel's enhanced 10-nanometer manufacturing process (10nm+) and features four Willow Cove processor cores with HyperThreading support (so eight threads). While specifications may change when the chip actually releases, leaks indicate it runs at a 2.8GHz base clock and a 4.7GHz boost... Read more...
How many times are we going to spy leaked benchmarks for Intel's upcoming Tiger Lake processors? At least one more time, apparently. Once again, the unreleased Core i7-1165G7 has made a cameo in a benchmark database, this time by hitching a ride on an upgraded Dell Inspiron 7506 2-in-1 system that is also not yet available (as configured). It is actually a pair of benchmark leaks that give us yet another glimpse of the Core i7-1165G7, along with a Core i7-1135G7, both spotted by Twitter user APISAK. The first one comes by way of a UserBenchmark database entry. Have a look... Source: APISAK (Twitter) via UserBenchmark According to the benchmark entry, the Core i7-1165G7 is a 4-core/8-thread processor... Read more...
We still have some waiting to do until we find out if the hype surrounding Intel's upcoming Tiger Lake stack—and particularly its accompanying Xe graphics—is justified. Until then, we are left to the usual sources, which entail rumors and leaked benchmarks. Falling into the latter category, a new 3DMark benchmark entry seemingly bodes well for Intel's Core i7-1165G7. The Core i7-1165G7 is a part we have seen in past leaks. It falls within Intel's Tiger Lake-U series (not yet released) and will be labeled as an 11th generation Core part, with Xe graphics. It is the Xe graphics that arguably of most interest, because it is the same underlying architecture that will power Intel's eventual... Read more...
It would not be a Thursday without another Tiger Lake benchmark leak (or a Wednesday or a Tuesday, or any day that ends in "Y"). We have seen a lot of leaked Tiger Lake data over the past several weeks, and this latest one pits an upcoming Core i7-1165G7 processor with Gen12 graphics against AMD's already-launched Ryzen 7 4800U with Vega graphics. Tiger Lake has yet to materialize in finalized form, though Intel must be close to doing so. It sure seems that test systems are already in the hands of OEMs, developers, and possibly reviewers (for the record, we don't have any Tiger Lake rigs on hand). Hence why these kinds of leaks keep appearing, particularly over at 3DMark's database. Part of the... Read more...
April showers might bring May flowers, but what do April lakes bring? Lots of early looks at upcoming processors, that's what. There have been plenty of leaks this month already, and adding to the growing pool is a 3DMark database entry pointing to an Intel Core i7-1165G7 mobile processor based on the chip maker's Tiger Lake-U series. Tiger Lake-U has not been released just yet, though Intel did sort of introduce the upcoming series at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. "Tiger Lake is designed to bring Intel’s bold, people-led vision for mobile computing to life, with groundbreaking advances in every vector and experience that matters. With optimizations spanning the CPU, AI... Read more...
