Both features are currently available in beta testing and are expected to be commercially available in the first quarter of next year. NAVTEQ already delivers camera alert data and real-time traffic to navigation systems. The new Air Travel Status feature will provide GPS users with flight arrival and departure information for thousands of U.S. flights. It will also include information about security... Read more...
Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt has declined the opportunity to be the "Tech Czar" for the Obama administration. While Schmidt helped campaign for the new President Elect, and has been advising the Obama campaign on technology and energy as part of his 17-member Transition Economic Advisory Board, the prospect of becoming the first Chief Technology Officer of the United states can't entice him away from Google. "I love working at Google and I'm very happy to stay at Google, so the answer is no." said Schmidt. The job, as CTO, will be a large role to fill. There's been talk recently over private browsing features in upcoming browsers such as Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.1 (Safari already has this feature).  Privacy, of course, is an important subject for many end users (despite the somewhat pejorative term "porn mode" frequently used for it).  Well, a new browser has been recently released that --- rather than making this feature an afterthought, focuses directly on privacy as the base of its capabilities.
