UL 3DMark Speed Way DX12 Ultimate Benchmarks

In 3DMark's most advanced graphics test, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio just barely edges out the ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and both are hot on the RTX 4080's heals. The RTX 5070 Ti's, however, beat the RTX 4070 Ti by nearly 30%. AMD's current top-end Radeon RX 7900 XTX also trails the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio and ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5070 Ti here.

Hardware monitor during this benchmark run shows nice stable clocks for the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti cards, with relatively modest temperatures as well -- a commonality you'll see through all of the hardware health data posted in this review. 

UL 3DMark Steel Nomad DX12 Benchmarks

3DMark Steel Nomad is one of the newer cross-platform GPU benchmarks developed by UL Solutions as part of the 3DMark suite. This test is designed to evaluate the performance of modern gaming hardware in non-ray-traced scenarios, but using otherwise advanced rendering techniques with DX12.

With ray tracing removed from the equation, the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio and ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5070 Ti end up trailing the GeForce RTX 4080 by a somewhat larger margin and its lead over the RTX 4070 Ti dwindles down to about 17%. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX, however, jumps up a few rungs and finishes well ahead when its ray tracing cores can sit idle.

VR Benchmarks: VR Mark & Unigine Superposition

Superposition is an aging benchmark from Unigine, powered by the UNIGINE 2 Engine. It offers an array of benchmark modes, targeting gaming workloads as well as VR, with both DirectX and OpenGL code paths. There is an extreme hardware stability test built-in too. Unigine Superposition uses the developer’s unique SSRTGI (Screen-Space Ray-Traced Global Illumination) dynamic lighting technology, along with high quality textures and models, to produce some excellent visuals. We ran Superposition's VR Future benchmark to compare the performance of all of the graphics cards featured here.

Unigine Superposition VR Future Test

Unigine's VR Future benchmark had the ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 4080 neck-and-neck, but the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio's slightly higher clocks gave it a tiny edge and it was actually able to sneak past the RTX 4080. Those potentially looking to upgrade from an older "70" class GPU can clearly see the generational leaps in performance in this benchmark -- the RTX 5070 Ti is about 2x the performance of the RTX 3070 Ti, and about 20% faster than an RTX 4070 Ti.

UL VR Mark Blue Room Benchmarks

UL's VRMark was designed to test a PC’s readiness for HMDs like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The benchmark does not, however, require that one of the headsets is attached to the PC to run and it uses an in-house graphics engine and content to ensure comparable results between different platforms. We ran the "Blue Room" VRMark test at defaults settings here, which is the most taxing test offered by the tool.


We saw more of the same with VRMark. The framerates are higher in this less demanding benchmark, but the RTX 5070 Ti cards finish in familiar positions. Both the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio and ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5070 Ti outpace the previous-gen xx70 Ti series cards, but can't quite catch the GeForce RTX 4080 or the higher-end cards.
