We see a lot of mechanical keyboards here at HotHardware and some on our team frankly fancy themselves
aficionados on the topic of key switch technologies and typing decks, with the understanding of
the "keys to success," for finding what's right for you. I'm personally not a mechanical keyboard guru, but I know what I like and what I don't like.
I'm the type that likes a relatively quiet switch. It doesn't need to be completely silent but I definitely don't want an audible click, no matter how much of an advantage it may offer in terms of accuracy or tactility. I do, however, want a little bit of tactile feedback in the form of a bump or click, as long as it is relatively quiet. And so for me, Cherry MX Brown key switches are likely the weapon of choice for my content creation with occasional gaming use case. That leaves me with the K70 RGB MK.2, but honestly, with either of these two new
Corsair keyboards, you really can't go wrong.
Corsair is a long standing
PC components and peripherals manufacturer that typically focuses on premium quality products, rather than low cost, value stuff. The K70 RGB MK.2 and the Strafe RGB MK.2 are more of the same from Corsair. Time and time again, this company seems to find a way to design and build products that stand out among the rest of the crowd based on a pure quality play alone. They're not inexpensive; the
K70 RGB MK.2 retailing for around $159 and the
Strafe RGB MK.2 for around $139, but when it comes to keyboards, dropping a few extra pesos on a quality typing deck is so worth it. If you're a gamer, enthusiast or content creation professional, you realize that, in addition to a capable PC that, like a quality monitor, a quality keyboard is critical to the user experience. Our recommendation: don't cheap out on a keyboard. Treat yourself to the best you can reasonably afford. You'll thank yourself later.

And in that regard, we'd offer the new
Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 and Corsair Strafe RGB MK.2 are two of the best mechanical gaming-oriented keyboards on the market right now. They're slightly upscale on price comparatively, but well worth the investment. In fact, we're giving both a HotHardware Editor's Choice for product quality excellence.
