AMD Radeon VII Review: Performance Benchmarks With 7nm Vega

Next up, we’ve got some benchmark scores from FarCry 5, the latest installment in the storied franchise. Like its predecessors, FarCry 5 is a fast-action shooter set in an open world environment with lush visuals and high graphics fidelity. The game takes place in a fictional county in Montana, where a cult has taken over control of the area. We tested all of the graphics cards here at multiple resolutions using Ultra Quality settings to see how they handled this recently-released AAA title.

The Radeon VII trailed the GeForce RTX 2080 in FarCry 5 with the settings we used at 1440p, but the Radeon VII's massive memory bandwidth advantage allowed it to catch up and match the RTX 2080's performance at 4K.

FarCry displays the frame rate over time and memory usage as well when the test is complete, so we also captured that info with the GeForce RTX 2080 and Radeon VII running at 4K. The cards behaved similarly here as well.

Freshly Updated With DLSS Support
Deep Learning Super Sampling, or DLSS, is one of the GeForce RTX series’ stand-out features. When employed, DLSS should offer image quality on par with or better than other anti-aliasing techniques, but with a much smaller performance hit.

Obviously, we only have DLSS scores on the GeForce RTX series cards, since the others don't support it. The TAA numbers are comparable, however, and they show the Radeon VII trailing the RTX 2070 and 2080, and even the older GeForce GTX 1080.
