Loot boxes are common occurrence these days in gaming, and an incredibly annoying one for many. Three months after Hawaiian representative Rep. Chris Lee invoked Stars Wars to declare that "It's a trap" with regards to Star Wars Battlefront II microtransactions and loot boxes, state lawmakers have introduced four bills that would enact additional regulations on the controversial practice. There are two bills that are currently coursing through the Hawaii state House (Bill 2686) and Senate (Bill 3024); both aim to ban the sale of loot boxes to gamers under the age of 21. Yes, you heard that right -- loot box sales would carry the same age-based restrictions as purchasing alcohol. The bills state... Read more...
There's a new Star Wars movie on the horizon, and Electronic Arts (EA) is looking to leverage the hype surrounding that film to fuel a spectacular launch for Star Wars Battlefront II. Battlefront II is the follow-up to its 2015 predecessor, and EA wants you to know that this game is bigger, badder and loaded to the brim with content (something that was quite lacking with the original Star Wars Battlefront). EA has released a nearly 5-minute-long trailer for the game that is narrated by none other than John Boyega, one of the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Boyega runs you through everything that's new with the game including class levels -- Assault,... Read more...
Although a teaser trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II leaked a few days ago, Electronic Arts is today providing us with the real deal on the sequel to the original game, which launched two years ago. While Star Wars: Battlefront was multiplayer-only (and was roundly criticized because of that oversight), Battlefront II actually has a full single-player campaign for those that want it. In fact, the debut trailer for the game focuses primarily on the single-player mode, which introduces an all-new character: Iden Versio. As the official website for the Battlefront II explains, Iden is a “commander of Inferno Squad—an Imperial special forces unit equally lethal on the ground and in space. Encounter... Read more...
If you've been itchin' for a chance to strap in and take part in a head-on assault against the Death Star, now is your chance. The latest DLC for Star Wars Battlefront is nearing release, and it gives you a chance to take down the heavily armored space station that has enough power to destroy an entire planet.  “Battle Station” is the latest game type in Star Wars Battlefront. In this DLC, teams first fight with X-Wings and TIE Fighters -- the rebels then land and assault the Death Star. The battle ends when one of the teams heads down to the trenches and blows the Death Star up. There is no word yet on whether Obi-Wan Kenobi will encourage players to use the force while they blow the... Read more...
Sony serious about virtual reality (VR) and that point was made clear this week with announcement of specs, pricing and availability for its PlayStation VR headset accessory for the PlayStation 4. Although Sony isn’t ready to give a specific availability date, we do know that it will be available in October with a price tag of $399 in the United States. That’s a pretty fair price when you consider that the HTC Vive costs $799 and the Oculus Rift will run you $599. And you also have to add in the cost of a pretty beefy PC that’s required to power those VR headsets. If you already own a PS4, the $399 price tag might not seem so bad if you’re looking to fully immerse yourself into the VR experience.... Read more...
Just over a week ago, Sony announced a $300 PlayStation 4 bundle that was available from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday via its retail partners. Apparently, sales figures during this promotion were pleasing to Sony, as the company has decided to extend the offer and add an additional bundle to the mix. Starting December 6th, Sony will offer the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Star Wars Battlefront Standard Edition bundles for a low $299.99. The promotion lasts through December 19th, so if you’re at all interested in picking up a PlayStation 4, now is the time. It’s also likely that Sony is hoping to cash in on the hype surrounding the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with... Read more...
AMD's working on a brand new software suite called Radeon Software Crimson Edition to replace its Catalyst Control Center, but in the meantime, the show must go on, as they say. And in the latest act, AMD has made available its Catalyst 15.11.1 drivers in beta form to boost performance in some of the newest games just released. To be more specific, Catalyst 15.11.1 beta includes "quality and performance optimizations" for Star Wars: Battlefront, Fallout 4 (check out our gameplay and performance review), Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate. If you're planning to play any of those titles on your Radeon branded GPU, it might be worth rolling the dice on beta drivers. Of course,... Read more...
With all the hype surrounding Fallout 4, it’s easy to forget that there’s another blockbuster game set to release this month. That’s right, we’re talking about Star Wars Battlefront (November 17th release), which serves as a perfect appetizer for the December 18th opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To set the mood for Star Wars Battlefront’s release later this month, Electronic Arts is offering up a rather kickass interactive virtual tour of the game. By hopping over to the the official Star Wars Battlefront website, you can take part in an in-depth, in-game romp through Endor, Hoth, Sullust and Tatooine (Click Here). The “on the rails” walkthrough lets you feel like you’re part of the... Read more...
With all due respect, if watching the official launch trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront doesn't get you pumped for the game's release next month, you might not have a pulse. Seriously, we think it's even listed as a warning sign for a zombie related disease in WebMD. That also means the pressure is on developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts to deliver an epic multiplayer experience that lives up to the pre-release hype. Though the newest Battlefront title will be the third in the series, it's not a sequel to the previous versions, but a reboot. You'll play from either a first-person or third-person perspective (you can switch at any time) as a Rebel Alliance soldier or an Imperial Stormtrooper.... Read more...
The minimum and recommended system specs for Star Wars Battlefront are out today. If your PC is getting a little long in the tooth, it’s a good idea to check them out. EA’s upcoming games looks killer so far, and if your friends aren’t already talking about it, they will be soon. We’ll start with the minimum recommended specifications first. Remember that these are for the Beta, so it’s conceivable that they could change before Star Wars Battlefront is officially released:CPU: Intel i3 6300T or equivalentRAM: 8GBGPU: ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB or Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB – DirectX 11OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or laterThe real catch here is 8GB of RAM, which is going to be difficult for some older and... It’s just about time to switch off your targeting computer and let the Force guide you into EA’s epic new battle game. A tweet from EA this morning assured Star Wars fans that not only is EA planning a Beta of Star Wars: Battlefront, it will be an open Beta. You could be taking down AT-AT walkers in the early days of October, well ahead of the official November 17 launch. EA plans to make Star Wars: Battlefront Beta available for PC (via Origin) as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Beta will feature two modules, often called missions, including the Survival Mission on Tatooine. (You’ll be able to play the mission on other planets once the full version of the game is available.) You play... Read more...
There were lots of juicy bits at this year's E3 convention, among them a full five minutes of actual gameplay footage from the third installment in the Star Wars Battlefront series. What makes this trailer so exciting is that the gameplay is plucked from a PlayStation 4, as opposed to renders made with the game engine or cutscenes that don't actually depict gameplay graphics. It's a wild five-minute ride filled with TIE fighters, X-Wings (which you get to fly, by the way), AT-ATs, AT-STs, rebel troopers, stormtrooopers, lasers, lightsabers, and, well, you get the point. When the finished product ships, you'll be able to join the Empire and accompany AT-AT walkers as they march... Read more...
This has been a tremendous week for Star Wars fans. First we got to see Han Solo and Chewbacca make an emotional appearance in the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (the second official trailer Disney has put out) and now Electronic Arts is treating us to a visual smorgasbord of cinema-quality footage showing the forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront game. Had you not known it was a game, it would be easy to mistake the trailer for an upcoming movie. Instead, you're seeing actual game engine footage of the multiplayer shooter, which was unveiled Friday at Star Wars Celebration, an annual convention celebrating one of the most popular science fiction franchises of all time. I don't know... Read more...
