This has been a tremendous week for
Star Wars fans. First we got to see Han Solo and Chewbacca make an
emotional appearance in the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (the second official trailer Disney has put out) and now
Electronic Arts is treating us to a visual smorgasbord of cinema-quality footage showing the forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront game.
Had you not known it was a game, it would be easy to mistake the trailer for an upcoming movie. Instead, you're seeing actual game engine footage of the multiplayer shooter, which was unveiled Friday at Star Wars Celebration, an annual convention celebrating one of the most popular science fiction franchises of all time.
I don't know what other sites and fans are saying about the footage, but I was equally impressed by the sound effects. If you have a good set of speakers or headphones, do yourself a solid and watch the clip with the volume turned up, and don't skimp on any bass controls, if you have them.
Battlefront will support to up 40 players divided between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, all shooting it out and playing with some of the coolest Star Wars vehicles and weapons around. We're talking jetpacks, AT-AT war machines, AT-STs, TIE Fighters, X-wings, and more.
"We wanted it to feel authentic to this universe," said "Battlefront" executive producer Patrick Bach. "You can get into these vehicles, from speeder bikes to X-wings, TIE fighters, AT-STs, AT-ATs. There's a wide range of vehicles that we wanted to realize. The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground."
The new iteration of Battlefront is scheduled for release November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs.
