It is almost always nice when your flight lands a little early, but one recent flight landed quite a bit earlier than usual. A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-9 reached 801 mph thanks to the help from a jet stream. This flight broke the Boeing 787-9’s previous record of 776 mph. The Virgin Atlantic flight from Los Angeles to London reached 801 mph on Monday night while flying over central Pennsylvania. At one point in the air, the plane was traveling faster than the speed of sound. The flight landed 48 minutes earlier than expected and many other flights in the United States were shortened by at least half an hour. Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-9 Why was the plane able to topple previous speed... Read more...
Think you've got game? Then you should probably look away. While collectors around the globe have long since bragged about owning more than anyone else when it comes to any given category of items, there's now one man to beat when it comes to the idea of collecting the most video games. Michael Thomasson seems like a pretty stand-up 31-year old gentleman, but he has something else to be proud of: he has amassed 10,607 video games, but he is actually beyond that figure since earning a Guinness World Record. That's right: he now has a world record to prove that his collection of games is larger than that of anyone else residing on this planet. Thomasson stated: "I have games on cartridge, laser... Is anyone doubting that app stores are the future? Google's Android Market is now home to tens of thousands of applications, and Apple's App Store is home to even more. Rivals like LG and Samsung have also looked at creating their own stores, and Apple is even bringing an app store to their desktop operating system. You could argue that Apple sparked the app store revolution with iOS (formerly iPhone OS), and the spoils of being "first" are becoming more and more obvious. This weekend, Apple announced that over 10 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store. It's crazy when you realize that they hit 1 billion in 2009, so an extra 9 billion have been downloaded in less than 2 years! This... Read more...

LG then crowned 'em the champs, and handed them a whopping $100000 for... Read more...
MSI cards are no stranger to being at the top of the heap when it comes to breaking FPS records, and yet again the company is bragging about one of its own shattering the mold. The award-winning user? Famed overclocked "Deanzo" from the great nation of New Zealand, who used MSI's own Afterburner OC'ing software to push the card to its stable limited. You might have guessed that LN2 was used to keep it cool, and you'd be right. The card was cooled to -180?, enabling the clock speed... Read more...

Record label done you wrong? Not a problem if you're Danger Mouse. In a rather bizarre story, the famed music maker and producer (who is one-half of the group Gnarls Barkley) has decided to release a blank CD as his next album. Yes, a blank CD. If you'll recall, group System Of A Down released an album a few years back entitled 'Steal This Album,' but this is a whole new level of rebellion. As the story goes, his record label (EMI) canceled his newest disc, with sources citing a "legal dispute" as the hang-up. Currently, the album is already being streamed online, and while the 13-track album can be heard that way legally, there's no indication of how long the stream will stay live. The plan is... Forget David Blaine's recent antics of hanging upside down for 60 straight hours in New York City's Central Park. The real challenge of human endurance commenced yesterday morning about a mile south of Blaine's stunt, in the middle of Times Square. There in a makeshift "plexi-glass living room" for the world to see, eight brave souls commenced a competition to determine who is the world's greatest couch potato.   The Netflix Movie Watching World Championship: The Quest for the Popcorn Bowl underway in New York City (Credit: Gothamist)The contest is sponsored by Netflix, and the winner takes home "a $10,000 cash prize, a lifetime subscription to Netflix and the first-ever Popcorn Bowl trophy."... Earlier this week we reported on Scotland's Sunday Herald's claim that the Best Western hotel group was hit with the world's largest known data breach of eight million people's sensitive information, as well as Best Western's adamant denial. Even if the Sunday Herald story turns out to be true, the Best Western data breach would no longer hold the title of the world's largest known data breach. That record now goes to the Bank of New York (BNY) Mellon, which "lost" the sensitive information of 12.5 million customers. The BNY Mellon data breach itself is not new news. As documented in the Identity Theft Resource Center's ITRC Breach Report 2008, on February 27, 2008, BNY Mellon gave "an unencrypted... Read more...
No matter how carefully you try to protect your personal and financial information, you are still at the mercy of those companies you choose to give your information too. Unfortunately, it looks like keeping your sensitive data secure is becoming increasingly difficult for some companies. According to the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), 2008 is shaping up to be the year of the greatest number of reported identity-theft security breaches to date: "As of 9:30 a.m. August 22nd, the number of confirmed data breaches in 2008 stood at 449. The actual number of breaches is most likely higher, due to under-reporting and the fact that some of the breaches reported, which affect multiple businesses,... Read more...
