One of the first times we laid eyes on a curved monitor in the flesh was back at CES 2015 where Dell was showing off this 34-inch bad boy to the masses. Since then curved monitors have been cropping up all over the place, and even a few curved all-in-ones have made a showing here in Q4. Acer recently stepped up with its Predator line of displays including the 34-inch curvaceous Predator X34 that we immediately sat-up and took note of. The Predator X34 is not only a 34-inch curved panel targeted at gamers with refresh rate overclocking up to 100Hz, but it also comes with two flavors of Adaptive Refresh Rate (ARR) technology - either NVIDIA G-SYNC or AMD FreeSync. The G-SYNC enabled model sports... Read more...

Solid State Drives continue to be one of the more sought after (and effective) upgrades for both desktop and mobile systems. But as drives have matured, and newer generations have been released, the bandwidth limitations of the legacy SATA interface have become increasingly more apparent. Even relatively affordable, mainstream solid state drives are bumping into the SATA bandwidth limit right alongside more expensive flagship drives, which makes it difficult to differentiate between them based on performance alone. The answer to eliminating the bandwidth limitations of the SATA interface is PCI Express. The latest high-end solid state drives connect to a system using the PCI Express interface,... Read more...
At this point, we've pretty much seen what the best and fastest SATA 6Gbps-based solid state drives can offer -- transfer rates just shy of 600Mb/s. So what's the solution for even faster performance? To tap into the PCIe bus, of course! Enter Kingston's blazing fast HyperX Predator, an M.2 form factor SSD featuring a PCIe Gen 2.0 x4 interface. This 'Marvell-ous' piece of hardware sports a Marvell 88SS9293 controller and is capable of hitting read and write speeds of up to 1,400MB/s and 1,000MB/s, respectively. Yeah, it's like that. These are best case scenarios, of course, and those metrics apply to the 480GB capacity drive. There's also a 240GB model that can hit the same read speed and up... Read more...
In November last year, we gave you a first look at LSI's forthcoming SandForce SF3700 PCI Express SSD Flash controller. It's an impressive silicon integration of both a native PCI Express x4 interface and SandForce's excellent SSD controller technologies, along with some refinements and advancements baked in.  At the time, LSI mentioned a few OEM partners they were aligning with for manufacturing of their various reference designs and form-factors and Kingston, as well as ADATA and AVANT were on that short list.  At CES 2014 last week, however, it was Kingston that stepped out with the first incarnation of a PCI Express SSD card based on the technology and targeted at the enthusiast... With a new like Predator, you should probably expect to be scared. And even for PC enthusiasts, the new Predator G5910 is mighty scary to look at. Acer's gaming beast has just been updated, and the component list is no joke. It's a towering tower, put together to offer superior gaming and multi-media performance for those with a) the space and b) the money. The tower itself is daunting, and a serious looked. It's also enormous, so it'll probably be reserved for those with 2-bedroom apartments (as opposed to those tight studios). But of course, if power's all that matters, we're sure even those in cramped quarters could find a way. As for design, the top surface is angled and houses a convenient... Read more...
