Hands-On Video Preview With Acer Predator X34 Curved G-SYNC Monitor Is Pure Gaming Glory

One of the first times we laid eyes on a curved monitor in the flesh was back at CES 2015 where Dell was showing off this 34-inch bad boy to the masses. Since then curved monitors have been cropping up all over the place, and even a few curved all-in-ones have made a showing here in Q4. Acer recently stepped up with its Predator line of displays including the 34-inch curvaceous Predator X34 that we immediately sat-up and took note of. The Predator X34 is not only a 34-inch curved panel targeted at gamers with refresh rate overclocking up to 100Hz, but it also comes with two flavors of Adaptive Refresh Rate (ARR) technology - either NVIDIA G-SYNC or AMD FreeSync.

The G-SYNC enabled model sports a 100Hz overclock setting while the FreeSync version tops out at 75Hz. Marco has a great rundown of G-SYNC technology here and we've got some discussion on FreeSync here as well, but in a nutshell, the technology synchronizes pixel refresh of a monitor as frames are rendered on a GPU, for tear-free, jitter-free smooth gaming performance. It's one of those things you have to see for yourself to appreciate. The experience is that much better. Combine ARR with a big, curved high refresh rate panel and you're looking at pure gaming geek glory, so we were  eager to check out the 100Hz-capable G-SYNC driven Predator X34 beast.

We've been working with a Predator X34 G-SYNC variant for the past week plus and have a quick hands on video preview tease here. Feast your eyes on this apex predator panel that can pretty much do it all, in addition to bringing the gaming beat-down wrapped around you slightly for maximum peripheral pleasure.

And stay tuned in the days ahead for our full spread deep dive review as we tear into the Acer Predator X34 with voracity. The early tip here is that we think it's good enough to merit a HotHardware Editor's Choice but there's a lot more detail and we'll be back to stalk you with it in short order.
