When most home and workstation users think of NAS (Network Attached Storage), they think of big, bulky rackmount servers packed to the brim with terabytes of hard drive space (and terabyte-style price tags to match). NAS became a buzzword in the late 90's, during the dot-com explosion, where the product was targeted at companies who were just integrating web functionality into their businesses, and needed data storage where multiple people could access single file sets. Good morning friends :)  Awaking to a cold and frosty morning, it unfortunately looks as if winter is fast approaching.  I know us Canadians are supposed to enjoy the cold and snow.  But, all I can say is that I am glad I installed a remote car starter a few weeks back; nothing like pre-heated seats in the early AM ;)  Tsunami Ultra Quiet Custom Case @ PimpRig "The mnpctech Tsunami that Bill sent had some killer airbrush work on it that is called "Silent and Deadly". I get it completely; a Tsunami is a giant wave (as in the style of case), this is the Ultra Quiet so it's silent, and the Killer Whale is a deadly predator in the water. The artwork is drop-dead... Back in mid-June we took a look at the latest offering from Plextor, the PX-712A.  This drive boasted 12X DVD+R write speeds and maintained the same level of quality we've come to expect from Plextor.  For years, Plextor has been in the optical drive business and for most of that time they've been the one company all others can be gauged against.  This is because Plextor makes drives for the professional and the serious enthusiast looking for advanced features and the ability to control drive performance.  Sometimes, they are not the first to reach the market with the fastest speed or the newest features, but when they do, you can be certain Plextor has done their homework... Good evening friends, glad to see you are back.  My buddy and I decided to hit the local computer store after work to pickup a few totally unneeded accessories.  Personally, I was on the hunt for a new CPU Cooler for my AMD rig.  In the end I decided upon Zalman's CNPS7000-Cu.  Though it is not the best for overclocking, the low decibel rating is the key feature to mine eye. News?  I have you covered...   PRESS RELEASE - CATALYST Summer Promo Our friends over at ATi just informed us that they are offering North American shoppers a ten dollar off coupon for ATI products bought through their e-commerce store.  All you have to do is jump to one of the links below... However, what these cheaper models usually lack are unique features that bring new functionality to the forefront, something Plextor has been doing for quite some time. Today on HotHardware, we're going to take a look at the latest Plextor drive to land our test bench, the Plextor PX-712A.  This model boasts 12X DVD recording on DVD+R media and 8X recording with DVD-R... By Robert Maloney December 28th, 2003 When it comes to optical drives, one brand that folks have turned to time and time again, for reliability and performance, would be Plextor.  We have had our looks at many a CD-RW drive and even a few 4X DVD burners this past year.  However, we were beginning to reach a point in time, where we were looking for the next "big thing".  It looks as if we're on the verge of this with optical drive technology in 2004.  Plextor is stepping out ahead in their core competancy, against the competition, with a drive that's not only dual-format, allowing for...   The Plextor PX-708UF DVD±R/RW Drive Plextor Thinks Outside the Box By, Jeff Bouton November 20, 2003 When it comes to CD/DVD recorders, Plextor has been one of the top choices for a number of years.  While they have been paving the way in this fiercely competitive environment, the industry has evolved and technology improved, so the competition is not too far behind.  While it is commonly stated that "it is lonely at the top", this doesn't quite seem as true as it once was.  Today, there are a number of manufacturers producing CD/DVD burners that can compete on the same level as Plextor in performance and quality, and sometimes price.  So to stay...   The Plextor PX-504A DVD+R/RW Drive More Space, More Speed, More Compatability By, Jeff Bouton April 15, 2003   Plextor is one of the top manufacturers of optical drives.  In fact, many consider their drives to be the best available.  Over the years, we've had the opportunity to review quite a few models, with virtually all of them receiving our "Editor's Choice" award.  The reason for this was simple; Plextor consistently produces drives with features and performance, that either set the standard, or perfected current standards.  As hard drive capacities continue to grow, the need for larger removable storage solutions has increased.  Naturally,...   The Plextor 48x24x48 CD-RW Drive Burning CDs Faster Than Ever Before... By, Marco Chiappetta November 12, 2002 Plextor recently released their newest flagship CD-RW drive, the PlexWriter 48/24/48A.  Obviously, just by looking at the name, it's clear that this drive should offer increased reading and writing speeds over Plextor's previous top-of-line PlexWriter 40/12/40A.  The maximum CD recording speed has been raised to 48X (7.2MB/s), from 40X (6MB/s) and by conforming to the new Ultra-Speed CD-RW standard, re-writing speeds have doubled from 12X (1.8MB/s) to 24X (3.6MB/s).  Plextor also claims that access times have been vastly improved over their previous products. ...
