PAX East is chock full of dazzling sights and sounds. One of the crown jewels was a series of custom-built PCs showcased by Gigabyte's Aorus sub-brand. The seven systems were designed and built by either an enthusiast community member or a professional modder. Aorus contributed parts but otherwise allowed the creators to execute on their vision. We caught up with one of the builders, Kevin Tabor from Mod My Mods, who gave us an overview of each of the systems. The builds span a wide range of stylings. There are a couple systems with minuscule footprints and others in massive towers. One system uses the aggressive stylings of the Cougar Conquer chassis while others float free in open air frames.... PAX East is a show that offers something for just about anyone. The floor is filled with everything from the latest video games to innovative board games. It particularly presents an opportunity for PC manufacturers to show off their wildest gaming rigs and more. We checked in with Origin to see their Big O PC-Console hybrids in person and then stopped by ThermalTake for a master class in custom liquid cooling to complement their new LCGS PC lineup. That did not discourage the likes of high-end audio manufacturers Audeze (pronounced like “Odyssey”) and Antlion from making an impression at PAX East. Audeze focused on their gaming headphones at the show, but their models do not all have microphones. Fortunately, Antilion was also nearby showcasing their wireless ModMic system which can attach to any standalone headphones. Together, Audeze and Antlion can let audiophiles get in on the conversation without sacrificing any fidelity. Audeze specializes in making open-back headphones with planar magnetic drivers. This system uses a very thin... Read more...
Liquid cooling systems provide many benefits and look fantastic, but they are not always accessible to gamers on a budget. The company EK is known for their water blocks and liquid cooling solutions, but they have recently branched out to include fully-built systems. EK showed off their line of fluid-gaming PCs at PAX East 2020 in Boston, Massachusetts. The line includes both more affordable and high-end options. The Fluid-Gaming systems come in three tiers: the “base model” Battle, the mid level Conquest, and the no-compromises Vanquish. All three options include the same hard-line liquid cooling setup. However, the hardware insides varies based on the tier. The 250-AR Battle includes... Read more...
