It’s been a rough few years for LG. The company has experienced steadily diminishing phone sales and market share as of late. Yet not too long ago, it was hot on the heels of fellow Korean giant Samsung. Over the last decade, LG even brought us many features and innovations we take for granted today, like the first QuadHD screen (LG G3 - 2014), the first ultrawide camera (LG G5 - 2016), and the first 18:9 aspect ratio display (LG G6 - 2017). The G6, and the LG V30 that followed later that year, established LG’s fresh (at the time) new aluminum and glass sandwich design, which is still evident in the company’s latest flagship, the V60 ThinQ 5G. Unfortunately, this look -- not... Read more...
LG doesn’t get the same attention as its fellow South Korean behemoth Samsung when it comes smartphones, but that doesn’t mean that the company isn’t putting out excellent devices. In fact, the company back in the Spring officially announced its Velvet, which is a mid-range 5G smartphone. Today, we’re learning that the smartphone will launch this week on AT&T’s wireless network (tomorrow, July 22nd to be exact). The smartphone will carry a retail price of $600, or will ring in at $20/month for 30 months with an installment plan. However, AT&T is offering a limited time promotion where you can get the Velvet for $10/month over 30 months with a new... Read more...

Given its specs, the Velvet doesn't appear to a true flagship device, but it does take LG phones in a different design direction. As we already know, the Velvet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC, which features an integrated 5G modem. That puts it squarely in the mid-range segment, as the Snapdragon 865 occupies the loftier "premium" tier. Today, we're learning that the Snapdragon 765 is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. LG is also including a microSD slot (up to 2TB supported) if 128GB isn't enough... Read more...
While we were presented with black and white drawings of the LG's Velvet smartphone earlier this month, the South Korean electronics manufacturers is presenting the real deal now via its YouTube channel. The renders clearly show off the new "3D Arc Design" influence that LG wants to bring to its smartphone lineup. "Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG designs which have always been distinctive at first touch," said vice president Cha Yong-duk, who severs as head of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab. "This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward." The sleek design reveals what looks to... Read more...
