It’s springtime, which means that iPhone rumors and leaks are ramping up at quickening pace. Last week, we were treated to speculative renders of the incoming iPhone 8 flagship, and today we are getting a look at alleged molds for the smartphone in comparison to its rumored iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus siblings. The molds that have been presented are used by manufacturers that produce cases for iPhones. They of course need device specifications well in advance so that they can have cases ready to go as soon as a new Apple product is launched. The molds show that the iPhone 8 is just slightly larger... Read more...
The iPhone 8 speculation train is well underway and it shows no signs of slowing down until the flagship smartphone is officially unveiled later this year. Today, we’re getting a glimpse at new renders of the smartphone which are reportedly based on highly-detailed, leaked CAD files. According to Engadget, which is presenting these renders, its source is highly credible and this perhaps gives us our best look at what Apple has in store for us. The renders confirm the vertically-oriented rear camera setup that has been rumored for the past few months. Despite the fact that the iPhone 8 is said to... Read more...
Apple’s flagship iPhone models have never been thought of as “affordable”, and that may be even more apparent with the upcoming iPhone 8. According to research note from Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski, the iPhone 8 could start at a wallet-busting $999. Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard that the iPhone 8 would flirt with the $1,000 mark. According to Jankowski, the base iPhone 8 will come with 128GB of storage, forgoing the 32GB SKU currently present on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This is understandable, as it would be a crime for Apple to release a $1,000... Read more...
Sometime this year (likely in October), Apple will launch the iPhone 8. This will be an important product release not just because it is another flagship phone, but it marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, the handset that transformed the market for cellular devices. Apple is expected to make a splash to celebrate the occasion, the question is how? According to a J.P. Morgan report, bundled AirPods could be Apple's big play, or at least one of them.Apple famously (and controversially) eliminated the 3.5mm audio jack with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, calling it a courageous act in its mission... Apple announced its fiscal Q2 2017 earnings yesterday, and the company reported $52.9 billion in revenue against a Wall Street consensus of $53.1 billion. The company also experienced a downturn in iPhone sales, as it shipped 50.8 million units for fiscal Q2 compared to 51.2 million during the same quarter in 2016. Everyone has been focusing on that figure for iPhone shipments, even if it’s down ever so slightly from the year before. Some are wondering if Apple has lost its mojo, or if Apple’s iPhone boom in China has lost its sizzle. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, there’s another explanation... Read more...
The iPhone 8 is likely to be the most dramatic update to Apple’s winning smartphone formula since its inception. Each iPhone generation that has come after the original, which launched in 2007, has seen steady progressions in design and performance. Apple's iPhone 8 expected to usher in a number of new [for an iPhone] technologies like an edge-to-edge display, through-the-display Touch ID, a next generation 10nm A11 processor and vibrant OLED technology. That’s a lot of new tech to introduce at once, and reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that iPhone 8 supplies will be severely... Read more...
Apple faced some criticism over the release of its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus handsets for not doing enough to separate the newest flagships from the previous generation models. Fair enough, but with the 10th anniversary of the iPhone coming up and Apple planning to release the iPhone 8 to coincide with it, there is a reasonable expectation that it will not be just another incremental upgrade, a notion that is backed up by leaked renderings.Twitter user KK Sneak Leaks, a frequent resident of China's Weibo social network, posted some renderings of what he claims is the iPhone 8, or iPhone Edition,... The iPhone 8 is expected to be the most significant upgrade to Apple’s flagship smartphone range to date. The iPhone 8 will likely usher in an all-new premium design with an OLED display, and demand is expected to initially far outpace supply. The iPhone 8 will likely be unveiled alongside both the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus — both of which will be slight refreshes of the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. These “lesser” iPhones are expected to be available shortly after their official September announcement. However, Apple analyst Brian White says that the iPhone 8 will... Read more...
Samsung and Apple may be fierce competitors in the smartphone space (a rivalry that is only intensifying with the release of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+), but the latter still relies on the former for crucial components in its iPhone. In the case of upcoming iPhone 8, Apple will lean heavily on Samsung for display panels. A new report coming out of Japan says that Apple recently placed an order for 70 million organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels for use in the iPhone 8 flagship (or whatever it will be called when it is announced in September). This will mark the first time that Apple has... Read more...
Apple may look to the field of augmented reality to help set its upcoming iPhone 8 device apart from the competition. Perhaps just as importantly, infusing AR into the iPhone 8 would set its next flagship phone apart from previous iPhone models, a not unimportant goal after Apple faced criticism for the lack of innovation that went into designing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. That is not to say the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are bad phones. Far from it—they're the best iPhones to date, and some would consider them the best smartphones available. But compared to previous models, Apple's latest... Read more...
Imagination Technologies introduced its next-generation PowerVR Furian architecture, which it says is an entirely new GPU architecture designed for the evolved graphics compute needs of next-generation consumer device. While not specifically stated, those future consumer devices could include Apple's forthcoming iPhone 8 handset, along with iterations that extend beyond the iPhone 8. It does not take a giant leap of faith to get there. Apple has a history of licensing GPU technology from Imagination Technologies, which the Cupertino outfit injects into its custom A-series system-on-chips (SoCs)... Read more...
The primary criticism surrounding the iPhone 7 is that Apple did not do enough to innovate—it feels more like an incremental update with faster hardware than a new generation handset. Apple disagrees with that notion, at least outwardly. Looking ahead, it's now rumored that Apple will use a flexible curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display on one of its iPhone 8 models. People supposedly familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that Apple's been putting in research on flexible OLED panels similar to the ones that Samsung uses in its flagship Galaxy phones, and that it had... The iPhone is coming up on its tenth anniversary, which means that people are expecting something really big from Apple for the fall reveal of the iPhone 8. The latest news to come down from the rumor mill is that the flagship smartphone will include 3D facial recognition technology thanks to the help of a laser scanner. In his research note, JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall says that the scanner will replace Touch ID, and has the potential to be more a secure method of authentication. While... Read more...
