AMD's next-generation Ryzen 5000 processors are just around the corner, and are highly anticipated by enthusiasts. Motherboard manufacturers are not only preparing to launch a new generation of flagship motherboards to support these new processors [likely X670-based), but they are also trying to ensure that their existing AM4 motherboards support the new processors. MSI revealed today that it is pushing out the AMD Combo PI V2 version 1.1.0.0 BIOS for a wide range of motherboards. As of now, MSI says that the BIOS will be supported across its X570, B550 and A520 based motherboards. According to the company, the update will be pushed out in four phases; the first of which is available... Read more...
Over the weekend we reported that the launch of the value priced A520 motherboards from AMD was coming soon. These boards are now finally out, boasting great options for I/O and bandwidth for all users and promising support for the future “Zen 3” architecture while also supporting current third-generation Ryzen processors. AMD's products are priced well across the entire spectrum, and they are continuing this trend with the A520 series of motherboards. According to AMD’s slide (see below), the A520 chipset is nestled squarely between the A320 series and the B550 series. With the A520, the general purpose PCIe lane gets bumped up to PCIe 3.0, providing more bandwidth over... Read more...
Building a Ryzen system right now either requires a pricey motherboard based on the flagship X570 chipset, the recently released B550, or sticking with previous-generation mid-range chipsets like the B450. Help for budget builders with severely limited funds is on the way though, in the form of the as-yet unannounced AMD A520 chipset, at least according to some online listings. It seems that boards from ASUS and ASRock have gone on sale ahead of any announcement of the chipset from AMD or from either of these board manufacturers, however.  Right now, Newegg is selling ASUS's Prime A520M-K motherboard for $75.99. This board is apparently compatible with Zen 2 and current consumer APUs... Read more...
There's a lot movement in the AMD camp these days with respect to its processors. Just this week, we gave you a performance review of the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X processors and they'll likely be paired up with budget-minded B550 motherboards. And there’s word that Renoir-based Ryzen 4000 APUs are right around the corner. We're now learning that ASUS has a family of A520 motherboards that are on the horizon, which will be even cheaper than their B550 counterparts. ASUS is reportedly delivering five A520 motherboards: PRIME A520M-A PRIME A520M-E PRIME A520M-K TUF GAMING A520M-A TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS B550 motherboards aren't as feature-packed as those featuring the X570 chipset,... AMD might soon be expanding its 500 series chipset beyond its sole offering, the X570. Over in China, there are rumblings about two additional 500 series chipsets making a debut soon, including the B550 and A520, both of which will represent more affordable options in the motherboard space for new and upgraded builds. This is not unexpected, given that AMD's 400 and 300 series chipsets both consist of multiple options as well—X470 (enthusiast), B450 (high-performance), X370 (enthusiast), B350 (high-performance), A320 (essential computing), and A300 (small form factors). As things currently stand, the X570 is the top option for new and upgraded builds in the mainstream desktop space. It... Read more...
