ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme Review

Performance Summary: The Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme is one heck of a performer. Due to its higher core (base/boost) and memory clocks, it clearly outpaced the GeForce GTX 1070 Founder’s Edition across the board. The GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme’s factory-overclock allowed it to close the gap between it and a higher-end GeForce GTX 1080 as well, but it wasn’t quite fast enough to ever catch the 1080. The Zotac card also proved to be a competent overclocker, nearly hitting 2.1GHz with some simple tweaks, and it’s dead silent at idle, which is a nice perk.

Let’s be clear from the get-go – the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme is about as over-the-top as any GTX 1070 on the market. From its triple-slot / triple-fan cooler, to the configurable RBG lighting, and its pair of 8-pin power connectors (even a GTX 1080 has only a single 8-pin connector), the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme is just that: Extreme.

Due to the card’s decked-out configuration, the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme also commands a bit of a price premium. Cards can be found in the $435 - $469 range depending on the reseller, which makes Zotac’s offering about 10 – 12% pricier than some lower-end GTX 1070s. If you’re looking for a fast, single-GPU that’ll offer tons of tweaking potential, and you're cool with sacrificing a couple of slots, it’ll probably be easy for you to justify the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme’s higher price tag, however. It may not be the absolute king of the hill, but the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme is a killer graphics card no matter how you slice it.
