PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Gameplay And Performance Review: An Addictive Masterpiece

PUBG Graphics Setup, Image Quality And Benchmarks

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds makes great use of the Unreal Engine 4. Though we wouldn't call it a graphics-stunner, it does look amazing good with its extensive view distance, realistic weather effects, and attention to detail. Also, the game's physics and impressive character animations are brought to life with a new movement system.

At launch, there were some technical issues with server performance and a few other minor issues on PC. Those have since been patched with solid and consistent performance thus far. PUGB features a healthy compliment of graphic settings to tweak and fine tune your experience.

For our testing, we used the Ultra preset throughout and averaged multiple game sessions on each of the two available maps.

PUBG scales fairly well across a variety of GPUs. Though we kept things on Ultra, we did note that kicking that preset down to High will yield a 60FPS avg at 1080p when using a humble NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580. On the higher end of the spectrum, if 4K gaming is your goal, then be prepared to spend some coin. As seen in the graph above, not all cards offer playable frame rates at 4K, though again, if you drop IQ settings you'll get a bit more breathing room and smoother frame rate overall.
