Lenovo YOGA Tablet 2 Pro With Built-In Projector Review

Final Thoughts

Lenovo may have built the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro with entertainment in mind, but we can see a lot of uses for this tablet beyond just entertainment. Sure, the speakers sound great compared to most tablet speakers, and the pico projector is cool for watching movies (assuming you have a dark room), but there’s no reason this device couldn’t be your all-around family oriented tablet. We could see the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro resting on a kitchen island for serving up recipes, helping maintain the family calendar, check email, browse the web, and the like.

We can also see business users considering the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro for use as a second monitor for their laptop (after buying an app to enable this functionality) or as a screen for giving presentations during business meetings. Regardless of how you intend to use it, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has a lot of features and functionality that give you plenty of options.

Even though we can see a number of different use cases for the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro, we also realize it’s not for everyone. This tablet is large enough that it’s not likely to be your go-to tablet for surfing the web from the couch or for toting around on a daily basis unless you’re slipping it into a bag of some sort. Additionally, the built-in pico projector may be useful to some, but if you don’t have a dark room to use it in, you’ll likely be disappointed.

Overall, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro performed well in many of our benchmark tests. In real-world use, the tablet was very responsive as well. We have mixed feelings about Lenovo’s custom skin that runs on top of Android KitKat. It wasn’t bad, but we also didn’t feel like it added a ton of extra functionality. Our favorite additions are the Bottom Switch and MultiWindow capabilities.

The suggested price of the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is $499.99, though street prices are a bit lower. This is no doubt expensive, especially if you’re comparing to other smaller tablets on the market that often cost at least $100 less. However, these other tablets generally have smaller screens and lack the multimedia capabilities, such as the pico projector and high-quality speakers of the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro.

At the end of the day, no single tablet will suit everyone’s needs. We give Lenovo credit for creating an innovative device that has features we haven’t already seen on other tablets. There are a lot of things to like about the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro. I you'll take advantage of some of it's unique features, we encourage you to give the YOGA Tablet Pro 2 a look.
