CrystalDiskMark is a synthetic benchmark that tests both sequential and random small and mid-sized file transfers using incompressible data. It provides a quick look at best and worst case scenarios with regard to SSD performance, best case being larger sequential transfers and worse case being small, random transfers.

With the exception of a couple of Read tests at high queue depths, the Intel Optane SSD 900P pulled way out in front here. In what's arguably the most important test as it relates to real-world, consumer desktop workloads -- the 4K QD1 test -- the Optane SSD 900P offers an order of magnitude better performance in the Read portion of the benchmark. Writes were among the best too.
