We saw fairly middling scores in the GFXBench Off Screen tests. The Venue 8 is a value-priced tablet, so you shouldn’t expect it to be a graphics powerhouse, but to its credit, it performed more impressively in these situations than most any other tablet would with a sub-$200 price tag. And, in real world use, 3D gaming was surprisingly smooth.

3DMark Ice Storm Extreme is a graphically intense benchmark that really taxes the 3D capabilities of a device. In our testing here, it's quite impressive how large a leap we see with Merrifield over the prior Venue 8. When it comes to gaming, it's clear that Merrifield with its integrated PowerVR graphics core provides a nice 1-2 punch.

Here, we see once again that the Venue 8 is pecking near the top when it comes to graphics. The more we see here, the more the Venue 8 strikes us as a great budget tab for on-the-go gaming. It's not quite responsive enough to recommend as an all-around workhorse, but for gaming it's no slouch.
