For many users, smartphones are tools that are more about the software and user experience than the hardware. Of course, you still need adequate hardware and smooth performance to ensure a good experience, but beyond that, there are plenty of users who are attracted more to software and easy-to-use features than anything else. As the first phone to ship with Facebook Home preinstalled, the new HTC First smartphone is hoping to attract users who care most about the Facebook experience on their phones. Facebook Home is deeply integrated with Android. With Facebook Home, you’ll see notifications, Facebook status updates, photos, messages, and more directly from the phone’s home... Read more...
The expression "better late than never" fits like a glove when talking about the recent trend towards 15.6-inch Ultrabooks. We fully appreciate that Intel and its hardware partners made a concerted effort to slim down the notebook without sacrificing performance (unlike the once popular netbook form factor), but limiting the segment to 14-inch displays (and smaller) felt like a step back in some ways. Enter Hewlett-Packard's Envy Ultrabook 6t-1000 Series. The Envy Ultrabook signals a return to the 15.6-inch form factor for those who want a larger size display, but otherwise find themselves, well, envious of slimmer laptops. Now you can have your cake and eat it, too, or at least that's the... Read more...
There was a time when 5-inch and larger smartphones were scoffed at.  The term "phablet" was coined and holding one of these things up to your head typically meant a bit of ridicule was in order.  However, as devices got thinner, lighter and ever more sleek, the 5-inch smartphone has become a hot commodity with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note II taking off towards stratospheric sales projections.  Recently HTC jumped in on the action with the launch of the Droid DNA for the Verizon network; offering a quad-core Snapdragon S4 SoC under the hood, the latest Android Jelly Bean operating system, an absolutely killer, gorgeous 5-inch IPS display with a full 1080p capable native... Smartphones, tablets and computers are constantly consuming and creating more and more content. And with that comes massive amounts of data consumption. The amount of sharing that takes place on today's smartphones and tablets is astounding, and every instance of that requires data -- and storage. Lately, it seems as if companies are dealing with these new realities by leaning heavily on the cloud. But trusting your precious data solely to the cloud can be a risky bet. Looking specifically at the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S III, the new iPad and pretty much every flagship mobile device that has shipped in the last six months, one thing that we expected was more local storage. After... Read more...

It's back-to-school season, and whether you've started classes recently or are awaiting (dreading?) that first 8AM lecture, there may be a few bits of techno-shopping that need to be taken care of before you can be on your way to that straight-A report card.          Credit: Seton Hall University Whether you're about to begin the Fall semester of college or your senior year in high school (or something... It's no secret that HTC has had a rough time competing with other big name smartphone manufacturers in the last couple of years. It looked like the company might be turning things around with its One series and the EVO 4G LTE for Sprint, but then the company got hit with another delay thanks to a U.S. Customs review. The EVO 4G LTE is finally here though, and Sprint customers can finally pick up this new, highly anticipated smartphone. The HTC EVO 4G LTE sports many of the high-end features you'd want in a smartphone today including Android 4.0, a 4.7-inch HD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, and 4G LTE connectivity. The phone also comes with the well-liked... Read more...
The HTC One X generated quite a buzz when the smartphone was first announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The initial announcement featured information and specifications for two versions of the phone, an international model built around NVIDIA’s quad-plus-one core Tegra 3 SoC (system on a chip) and a U.S. model powered by a dual-core Qualcomm chip. The lack of a quad-core model in the U.S. left some observers feeling a bit flat, but by going with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM 8960 HTC was able to support LTE in the U.S. Additionally; the MSM 8960 isn’t like other dual-core SoCs currently on the market. The MSM 8960 features Qualcomm's Krait microarchitecture,... Read more...
