Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

Japanese serial leaksman 188号 just posted up two mobile CPU roadmaps: one for Intel CPUs, and one for AMD. Chalk this one up as half-leak, half-rumor, because these clearly aren't official slides from Intel or AMD, but rather seem to be... Read more...

Let's talk about what "open-source" means, because it can get a little confusing. Big software projects have a lot of components, and "going open-source" doesn't always mean that every single component's source code is released. That's... Read more...
In 2025, there are a great many reasons you might want to consider an external GPU for your laptop or handheld gaming system. It's not just about gaming anymore. Of course, the GeForce RTX 5090 is the fastest graphics card in the world... Read more...

If you're really opposed to the existence of hybrid CPUs, you could buy an Intel chip and disable the E-cores, but that really dumpsters your multi-core performance. What if Intel made a CPU like it used to, and like AMD does: with a... Read more...

Intel Foundry needs external customers, as the company claims that if it doesn't find more, it may have to "pause or discontinue our pursuit of Intel 14A and successor nodes." When we reviewed the MSI Claw 8 AI+, we were quite fond of the device's performance and battery life. It was generally on par with the ASUS ROG Ally X, although some benchmarks gave a glimmer of potentially superior performance. On paper... Read more...
