The battle royale genre is emerging as one of the biggest developments in gaming since the advent of first person shooters, or at least it feels that way with how popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Fortnite are at the moment. Taking on both, and especially the latter with its cel-shaded graphics, is a new game called Crazy Justice, and it's headed to the Nintendo Switch with cross-platform gameplay. Crazy Justice hit the crowdfunding scene last year where it raised over $51,000 from 556 backers. It would raise more money following the campaign, hitting $67,128 in all. Those are all modest numbers, of course, but the game surpassed the $30,000 funding goal that developer Black Riddles... Read more...
Red Dead Redemption 2 has nearly passed into lore and has been accused of being vaporware by more than a few gamers over the years. The game was originally talked up with the first trailer back in October of 2016 with the promise of a 2017 launch. That 2017 launch never happened, but we did get the second trailer for the game in September of 2017. Rockstar also issued an apology in 2017 for delaying the game again, saying at the time, "We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer." Rockstar then said 2018 was the year for the launch. Fast... Read more...
Microsoft is getting set for E3 to kick off this summer and ahead of that event, Microsoft is adding some new features to the Xbox One. Microsoft says that some of these features build on other items it added last month and will roll out in the coming weeks. The big new addition will be support for 120Hz displays. This builds on the support added this month for the 1440p resolution along with auto low latency mode. This new feature will bring support for 120Hz monitors in 1080p and 1440p resolutions. The ability to group games and apps is coming with an enhancement to Pins called "Groups." Groups will allow users to create multiple collections of content that is made up of anything in the... The small team of developers at Hello Games is "working our socks off on the future of No Man's Sky," which includes a port to Microsoft's Xbox One consoles and a significant update to the core game called NEXT. The update, which is due out this summer, is a free release that Hello Games promises will be its biggest one to date, even more so than the Foundation Update that set the foundation to fix the many criticisms the game faced after it launched. "We called our upcoming update “NEXT”, because it’s an important next step on a longer journey for us and the community. It will be our biggest update so far, and something we’ve been working ridiculously hard on. This will... Read more...
One of the things that I have never understood are the folks who like to flip to the last page in a book and see how it ends before they read the book. I've also never understood people that want to beat a game as fast as possible. If you are a gaming fan and plan to pick up the game Far Cry 5 when it launches next week, there is a way to beat the game before it even gets started. This secret ending is super easy to enable as well; you simply have to “not” do something. That something you don’t do is place the handcuffs on the main baddy of the game, Jacob Seed. In the first scenes of the game, you are part of a group of U.S. Marshals walking into Seed's church to arrest... Read more...
As we reported yesterday, Fortnite cross-play is gaining a pretty large audience. Not only will Fortnite eventually have cross platform support for PC, Mac and Xbox One, but also on mobile platforms (iOS and Android). The lone hold, of course, is Sony with its popular PlayStation 4 console. Gamers would no doubt love to broaden the crop of available players to compete against by bringing the PS4 into the mix, but Sony has been reticent to such endeavors in the past. Microsoft has even reached out to Microsoft not only on Fortnite, but other cross-platform titles to no avail. “Microsoft has long been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of... Fortnite is bringing its cartoony visuals and battle royale platforms to mobile, and specifically to iOS and Android (in that order). When it arrives on mobile, Fortnite will support cross-platform play, allowing Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile users to play with and against one another. What about the PlayStation 4, you ask? Cross-platform play is being introduced to the PS4 version as well, except where it matters. Sony continues to be a buzzkill when it comes to cross-platform gameplay between the PS4 and Xbox One. That is unfortunate, though par for course when it comes to Sony and Microsoft letting their rivalry stand in the way of what consumers have been clamoring for. If you ask Microsoft,... Read more...
We already know that one of the cool features that are coming in the spring update for the Xbox One is support for 1440p gaming, which is perfect for gamers who have their Xbox One connected to a Quad HD monitor. The spring update that will bring 1440p support is now in testing with Preview Update users. With the update in testing, more details on what the update will bring for gamers has also arrived. Microsoft has added in the update an algorithmic "What's Hot" feed for club posts. This is said to make Club posts more like Reddit or Facebook. There is a Top Posts option that shows which are the most popular of all time. One of the biggest features added in the spring update is the ability for... Read more...
There are plenty of rivalries in gaming; we have PS4 vs. Xbox One, PC vs. console, and mouse/keyboard vs. gamepad. Ask a bunch of PC gamers why they dislike console gaming and odds are many of them will say they hate gamepads and prefer the mouse and keyboard combination. So why not use a mouse and keyboard on a console like the Xbox One? Some feel that the mouse and keyboard players would have an unfair advantage over the gamepad players. Microsoft has said in the past that an official mouse and keyboard might come for the Xbox One, but so far, the only way to get PC controls on the console is using a workaround that requires an adapter. Microsoft says that it is aware of this workaround and... Read more...
As 2017 winds down, Kodi has an announcement that Xbox One fans will really appreciate. Kodi for Xbox One is now available globally via the Windows and Xbox Store. One caveat of the software is that Kodi says it is not completely finished and may contain missing features and bugs. Essentially, it is beta software. Kodi wrote, "It was thought by the team that getting Kodi (XBMC) running on newer Xbox versions would be wishful thinking and we would never see that happen anymore. As time passed by developers and users were happy running XBMC on their Linux, Windows, OSX, Raspberry-Pi and Android devices as such no one really looked back. Although jokingly for nostalgic reasons we talked about how... Read more...
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been a breakout hit on the PC platform, and has gone on to become one of the most played games on the Steam. Given its immense popularity with PC gamers, it stands to reason that console users would also want to get in on the action. If you're an Xbox One or Xbox One X owners, you now that have opportunity, as the game launched for these platforms yesterday. Unfortunately, the game appears to be rife with performance issues that mar the gaming experience. Digital Foundry, which often gets the inside track on anything and everything related to Microsoft's Xbox hardware, conducted a thorough investigation into the performance of the PUBG on the Xbox One and Xbox... YouTube TV launched earlier this year as the latest in a long list of streaming services aimed at people looking to cut the cord. However, the launch was limited by the fact that the service was primarily focused on watching content from a smartphone or tablet. While that may be OK for people that want to watch TV shows while on-the-go, it didn't specially address the market for people that primarily watch content in front of a big screen television. Well, that all changes today, as Google just announced the YouTube TV app is coming to a host of devices specifically designed to provide a big screen experience. Those devices include the NVIDIA SHIELD TV (which gains supports via SHIELD Software... Read more...
One of the great things about the current generation of consoles like the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One is that both Sony and Microsoft have steadily improved their capabilities with software updates over the years. In the case of Microsoft, it has just released a new alpha firmware update to Xbox Insiders that allows them to save console settings to the cloud. This will definitely come in handy for those that have tweaked every possible setting on their Xbox One to perfection, and would rather save a few clicks (and headaches) when replacing a defective console, or when upgrading to a new and improved console (i.e. from an original Xbox One to an Xbox One X). According to Microsoft, you will... Read more...
The biggest shopping day of the year is nearly upon us. We are of course talking about Black Friday, the annual shopping bonanza where stores lure hordes of eager customers with deep discounts. Surprisingly enough, some of the best deals in tech might be found at Kohl's. A leaked flyer outlining so-called doorbuster deals has found its way to the web, and if you are looking to score an Xbox One S or PlayStation 4 console at a tantalizing price, Kohl's could be your best bet. The leaked ad first appeared on BlackFriday.com but has since been removed. It does not matter, because as we have said a million times before, there are no mulligans when it comes to the web. So, what nifty deals does Kohl's... Read more...
