We've always been somewhat skeptical of these so-called "surveys." With the proliferation of the Internet, it's pretty easy to fetch any kind of results you could ever want, but we tend to feel that these findings are at least somewhat substantiated. As part of a new 'Women & Digital Life' study, researchers found that Apple was the most popular technology brand in America amongst the ladies. Surprised? We doubt it.The results showed that Apple took the top spot, with Sony, Microsoft, Dell and HP following closely behind. And really, we can totally see why Apple and Sony would be ranked so highly. Both outfits choose to spend heavily on design and marketing, and so it follows logic that consumers... Read more...
For the business traveler (and the traveler in general, really), Wi-Fi is important -- crucial, even. But more important than sustenance? That's exactly what was found in a recent survey by American Airlines and HP, where some 47% of business travelers responded that Wi-Fi was the "most important airport amenity, outscoring basic travels needs such as food by nearly 30 percentage points." The online study gathered results from 1,500 frequent travelers who log more than 20 trips a year on three or more airlines, and it also found that the largest complaint wasn't delayed flights, cramped areas, endless fees or the lack of an AC outlet in coach -- no, it was dead PC batteries. Rich Morin, co-author of an interesting new study in the world of consumer electronics, probably said it best when he concluded that there is "nothing like hard times to focus the minds of the public on what they need and don’t need." Dell has acknowledged the fact that some consumers want laptops and desktop pre-installed with Linux and has launched a poll to ask what Linux features consumers want most. Dell has not announced a definite commitment to selling PCs with Linux pre-installed, but the Linux survey may bring the company one step closer to embracing the penguin. In February, Dell said it would certify Novell's (Nasdaq: NOVL) Latest News about Novell Suse Linux on business desktop and laptop PCs, but stopped short of saying it would offer Linux on consumer-oriented PCs. Now Dell has returned to the Linux discussion table. In a survey that Dell posted on its Web site Tuesday, the company says it is "listening"... Read more...
