During her Computex 2021 keynote this evening, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, along with compatriots Frank Azor and Scott Herkleman, revealed a number of the company’s new products an initiatives, targeting the server, desktop and mobile markets. For gamers, perhaps the most enticing announcement was the revelation of AMD's Radeon RX 6000M series of mobile GPUs. Though Dr. Su had mentioned that mobile RDNA 2-based Radeons were inbound back at CES earlier this year, it wasn’t until today that the actual line-up with specs, speeds and feeds was announced. The flagship product in the Radeon RX 6000M series is the Radeon RX 6800M. Although it is not quite as powerful as its desktop namesake, and... Read more...
AMD has officially returned to the modern generation discrete mobile graphics arena, where its newly minted Radeon RX 6000M series will soon duke it out with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 30 series. Announced at Computex 2021, AMD's latest mobile GPUs are powered by its second generation Radeon DNA (RDNA 2) graphics architecture, just like its Radeon RX 6000 series of desktop graphics cards. Make no mistake, AMD has it sights set on high-end gaming. According to the company, the Radeon RX 6000M series delivers up to 1.5x higher performance than the previous generation solutions, or the same performance at up to 43 percent lower power. If true—and you can bet we will put the claims to the test—that... Read more...
AMD is finally getting ready to counter NVIDIA's mobile GeForce RTX 30 series with a new generation of mobile GPUs of its own, and namely the Radeon RX 6000M family. The expectation is that AMD will make a formal announcement at Computex. Whether that is the case or not, however, some leaked retailer listings leave little doubt a launch is imminent. In particular, an upcoming gaming laptop from ASUS that has gone all-in with AMD's latest generation hardware is making the rounds. It is the ASUS ROG G513QY-HF002T, and according to a listing at Microaid, a retailer in Ireland, the laptop will be in stock on June 9, 2021. As configured, the asking price is €1,947.44, which is around $2,375 in... Read more...
We have some good news in store for folks out there firmly in the AMD camp concerning gaming hardware. ASUS is reportedly developing a version of its incoming 2021 ROG Strix G15 gaming laptop that will feature AMD's brawny Ryzen 9 5900HX Zen 3 APU and the unannounced Radeon RX 6800M processor. The Ryzen 9 5900HX is an 8-core/16-thread mobile Zen 3 processor with a base clock of 3.3GHz and a boost clock of up to 4.6GHz. While it has a default TDP of 45 watts, it can be configured by a laptop OEM from as low as 35 watts to as high as 54 watts. It also includes an integrated Radeon Vega 8 GPU for low-end gaming laptops that forgo discrete graphics to save board space and promote power efficiency.... Read more...
It is a pretty safe bet that AMD will introduce a range of mobile GPUs based on its latest generation RNDA 2 graphics architecture—essentially a porting of the Radeon RX 6000 series over to laptops. Exactly when and what specific SKUs will launch are both wait-and-see things. While we wait to see what emerges from AMD, the company seems to have partially tipped its hand in its latest GPU driver. Following the release of its Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card on the desktop, AMD was quick to push out a new GPU driver earlier this week, Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.3.1. It offers official support for the new card, as well as brings Radeon Boost support to DirectX 12 with variable rate shading in... Read more...
