AMD may have signed on with TSMC to outsource production of their upcoming Fusion technology.  At present it seems that Fusion will be produced on TSMC’s 45nm process. “JPMorgan projects that TSMC can further expand its technology to CPU manufacturing in the first quarter of 2008 after this field qualification is completed, though any meaningful sales contribution should only be seen in late 2008 or early 2009. Former professor of engineering at the University of California, Davis Paul S. Moller has always dreamed of developing a flying car. In the 1970s, he established Supertrapp Industries, a company that specializes in a device that muffles engine noise. He sold the company in the 1980s so that he could pursue his dreams, and since then has established Moller International. Moller's latest project: the M200G “UFO-looking saucer-shaped” flying car that looks like something out of a science fiction movie. The M200G, aka Moller Volantor, is designed to be a “vertical take-off and landing vehicle.” It is already under production and is estimated at a price of $90,000 USD. “The M200G uses eight low-emission... It looks like AMD is considering an exit from the costly chip fabrication business.  This might seem a strange move as many were speculating that part of the advantage of picking up ATI was that they could help the graphics firm eliminate the overhead caused by outsourcing chip fabrication.  It's unclear if the union has provided enough work to make the fabrication plants and associated R & D as profitable as AMD would like.  Most fabrication companies often have multiple customers which helps them evenly distribute the cost of upgrading their process technology.  The idea of AMD and ATI together might have made swallowing those upgrade costs a bit more feasible, but it seems that it might... DigiTimes reports that NVIDIA is currently rushing to manufacture 80u variants of the company's G73-B1 and G72. Doing so will allow NVIDIA to better compete with rival ATI in the mainstream and entry-level GPU markets as the die-shrink will allow NVIDIA to run cooler, consume less power,  and allow for higher frequencies. ATI is already offering 80u products in these segments so NVIDIA is playing a game of catch-up in some respects. However, with NVIDIA supposedly releasing a new flagship GPU this month and ATI's answer not coming until Q1 2006 there is a bit of irony with the situation.  While ATI prepares to... Read more...
