Blizzard seems to have struck gold with Overwatch, which attracted 10 million gamers within a month of launching. It has only grown since then, and unfortunately there are always going to be jerks in big crowds who try to ruin the fun for everyone else. Overwatch has a problem with toxic players, one that Blizzard has been trying crack down on. In case anyone though Blizzard would slow down its effort to thwart bad behavior in Overwatch, game director Jeff Kaplan explained in YouTube video what efforts are being done. We’re well into the summer season, which means that many folks are enjoying fun in the sun and taking trips to the pool (or the beach) to unwind. The developers over at Blizzard are getting in on the action as well with the Summer Games event for its wildly popular Overwatch gaming title, and it is now live. If you remember the Summer Games event from last year, then you know the drill for the current. There are a number of new skins available for your favorite characters. For example, Soldier 76 commits the ultimate sin by donning cargo shorts and a Hawaiian shirt (which isn’t so bad), but adds in sandals with socks (are you kidding me?). His signature assault rifle also is replaced — rather... Read more...
For all of life's mysterious, there is one simple trick to everyone living in harmony. Simply put, don't be a jerk. No really, it's that simple. Of course, sometimes you wouldn't know it when playing an online multiplayer game, such as Overwatch. That is something that bothers Blizzard and goes against its "Play nice; play fair" way of approaching things, and so it's going to dole out some tough love in the form of stiffer penalties. Blizzard issued the warning in a blog post while emphasizing in bold letters that increased penalties to players in response to verified reports of bad behavior will take effect immediately. "In Overwatch, that means anything from abusive chat, harassment, in-game... Read more...
Doomfist, the latest Overwatch character, has made a smashing debut. One professional Overwatch player tested Doomfist out at an exhibition match and wowed the crowd with four quick eliminations. Overwatch player Kim “Libero” Hye Sung of the professional South Korean team “Meta Athena”, recently played Doomfist in a match against “Ardeont”. Libero was quickly able to take out his opponents’ Winston, Genji, Tracer, and Zenyatta with Doomfist’s skills like “Rocket Punch” and “Meteor Strike”. Libero’s savvy use of Doomfist will hopefully encourage other professionals to experiment with the champion. Sombra and Orisa’s professional debuts ended poorly despite the hype prior to their release. Doomfist... Read more...

Blizzard just announced that “Doomfist” will soon join the games universe, and he is an offensive character with a difficulty rating of three stars Doomfist's mechanical arm means that his abilities mostly revolve around punching opponents and slamming them into the ground. His “hand cannon” ability allows him to fire a short-range burst of ammunition from his knuckle, while his “meteor strike” helps him to jump into the sky and deal damage while crashing to the ground. His other abilities include “Seismic Slam”, “Rising Uppercut”, “Rocket Punch”, and “The Best Defense…” Blizzard has also provided a lengthy backstory for the character. Doomfist’s... Read more...
It may too good to be true, but you can now earn digital currency while playing certain game titles. That's thanks to Razer, and its new program to reward avid gamers with 'zSILVER'. Supported titles include Overwatch, Dota 2, and League of Legends. zSILVER ties into Razer's payment system zVault, which lets gamers deposit funds into a virtual account to spend it across multiple titles. That particular currency is called zGOLD, so you can probably begin to sense the theme here. To put it simply: zGOLD requires real money for digital goods, while zSILVER requires digital currency for real goods. Earning zSILVER is simple, as long as you're willing to install Razer's Cortex software. This software... Read more...

As any online gamer knows, sometimes disconnects happen. It could be that your router hiccuped or someone accidentally unplugged the power strip where your cable modem is plugged into. Maybe your system simply crashed. Unfortunately for Overwatch players, unintentional disconnects can lead to a loss in placement ratings and a dinged skill rating, even if they reconnect and their team wins. That's something Blizzard is working to address. The way things work now in a competitive match, if someone quits within the first 30 seconds of game play, the match is invalid and the person who left receives both a loss and a leave—everyone else is free to leave without a penalty or loss. If someone disconnects... Read more...
Cheating is rampant in online gaming and a large reason why is the easy accessibility of popular software tools for gaining an unfair advantage. One of them is Watchover Tyrant, a cheat tool for Overwatch that offers several in-game hacks starting at 12.95 euros (around $14.50 in U.S. currency). Not only is Overwatch developer Blizzard aware of the tool, it's suing Watchover Tyrant's maker, Bossland, for copyright infringement. Overwatch is big success for Blizzard. The new franchise stormed out of the gate and raced to 10 million users in less than month. While the majority of gamers play by the rules, the ones who cheat ruin the experience for everyone else. By using Watchover Tyrant, unscrupulous... Read more...
Don't think that just because Overwatch is a huge hit that Blizzard will just sit back and ride the momentum. Just the opposite, Blizzard's stepping on the gas with new features for its newest game franchise, including competitive play, which it's rebuilding and taking in a new direction after receiving feedback from gamers during the beta period. "We were hoping that from the beta version of competitive play, we would need to do some polish and iteration and then release the feature but we felt like the feedback we got was basically asking for a different direction. So competitive play is quite a big effort for us this time around -- almost as much work as the first version," Blizzard stated... Read more...
Blizzard has another successful franchise on its hands and it took less than a month for that to be evident. Based on Blizzard's headcount, there are now more than 10 million gamers playing Overwatch, a cartoonish shooter that released to Windows PCs, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One barely more than three weeks ago on May 24, 2016. Overwatch is Blizzard's first attempt at a shooter, though it's no stranger to wildly popular franchises. World of Warcraft, probably its most lucrative IP to date, hit a high of 12 million monthly subscribers six years ago. Hearthstone, which ties into the WoW universe as a turn-based card game, reached more than 40 million players a year ago and remains one of the most... Read more...

Overwatch, the team-based multiplayer shooter from Blizzard Entertainment has proven to be an unstoppable force in the industry having now reached the hands of more than 7 million gamers within a week of launch. Many predicted as much once the early beta saw nearly 10 million users. Admittedly, we too have been immovably glued to the game since installing the PC version early last week. It features a wide variety of characters, and play styles, with frenetic-pace gameplay that is easy and intuitive for casual players. Yet Overwatch dishes out plenty of depth and strategy for crafty players who strive at filling specific roles in a team-based setting. That’s us for sure. So after about 100 intense... Read more...
