Sprint is continuing its Network Vision plan to expand and improve upon its network. As part of Network Vision, Sprint announced 11 new markets that are receiving access to its high-speed 4G LTE network. According to Sprint, the LTE service should be lit up in the 11 new markets and coverage will continue to expand in these areas in the coming weeks and months. AT&T is continuing its aggressive rollout of its 4G LTE network. Earlier this week, the company announced new markets that would soon be receiving LTE coverage. Today, the wireless carrier is adding a few more markets to this list. Three of the top wireless carriers in the U.S. are working hard to expand their LTE networks. Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and AT&T recently announced new markets that now have or will soon be getting LTE coverage. Verizon Wireless has added 4G LTE service to parts of Pennsylvania including Adams County, York County, and Lancaster County.  Verizon Wireless is also launching 4G LTE service in Sierra Vista, Douglas, Benson and Nogales, Arizona starting November 15. Verizon Wireless is bringing 4G LTE mobile broadband to 24 new markets starting today. With this addition, Verizon Wireless claims it is offering 4G LTE to more than 75 percent of the U.S. population. All of the major carriers in the US are racing to roll out their fourth-generation LTE networks. Sprint and AT&T both announced new expansion plans today. For starters, Sprint is planning to offer 4G LTE service in four new cities before Labor Day. Those cities include Baltimore, MD; Gainesville, GA; Manhattan / Junction City, KS; and Sherman-Denison, TX. With this expansion, Sprint will offer LTE in a total of 19 cities. T-Mobile is targeting business travelers with a new plan that promises unlimited international data roaming for a set fee. The new T-Mobile Open Europe plan provides unlimited data (though only the first 500MB will be at full-speed) within 28 European countries for a set rate of $50 per line per month. Users of the plan will not incur international roaming tolls. The T-Mobile Open Europe plan will be available next month. The new plans offer the choice of predictable monthly billing with no overage fees or high-speed access plans with pre-determined rates. The predictable monthly billing plans will slow data transmission speeds when the monthly data allotment has been reached rather than charging overage fees. The new plans, which are set to be available May 20, offer users a few options for accessing high-speed Internet while on the go. The new plans offer different allotments of data and start at $15 for 300MB for one week. The plans scale up from there, with the largest option giving you 5GB for one month for $50. Sprint announced a new mobile hotspot that supports the carrier's upcoming 4G LTE network as well as its currently available 4G WiMAX and 3G networks. The Sierra Wireless 4G LTE Tri-Fi Hotspot will be available May 18 for $99.99 after a mail-in-rebate and with a two-year service agreement. The device supports up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices and offers a microSD slot for file sharing. The Sierra Wireless Tri-Fi Hotspot offers up to eight hours of use on a single charge. We've heard mention of shared data plans in the past from Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam, who has said shared data plans will become available by the end of the year, but details concerning the actual plan or release date were relatively sparse. During Verizon's first-quarter earnings call yesterday, we learned a little more about the wireless carrier's plans to launch a shared data plan. Starting April 5, T-Mobile customers will have domestic data roaming limits on their cell phone plans according to a document acquired by TmoNews. As of right now, there are no limits on domestic data roaming. According to this leaked document, T-Mobile plans to stager data limits depending on which plan you're on. For example, users with the 2GB plan will be limited to 50MB of data while roaming. The 5GB plan will get 100MB and the 10GB plan will get 200MB of roaming. If a customer nears the allotment, T-Mobile plans to send a text message to alert the user. Sprint and LightSquared recently announced a 15-year deal that will give Sprint $9 billion in cash in exchange for spectrum hosting and LTE network services as well as LTE and satellite purchase credits it will provide LightSquared. The deal is expected to speed up the completion of LightSquared’s 4G LTE network. Under terms of the agreement, Sprint has the option of purchasing 4G capacity from LightSquared. In addition to the new laptops HP announced today, the company also introduced a pre-paid 3G mobile broadband service. The new service, known as DataPass is available in the US on HP’s business notebooks. With DataPass, users will be able to purchase wireless broadband data using major mobile carriers without being tied to a contract. DataPass users will also benefit by avoiding set-up fees. Just a week after Verizon Wireless launched its high-speed LTE (long-term evolution) network, the wireless carrier is already having problems. It's been reported that owners of the LTE modems have discovered a handoff lag any time the modems switch from an LTE connection to Verizon Wireless' more widespread 3G network. As a result of this lag, the modem holds on to its 3G connection for a while even after it has entered an LTE area. The latest T-Mobile myTouch supports video chat both when a Wi-Fi connection is available as well as through T-Mobile's wireless network.
