Well, that confirms it. The rumors have led us to a confirmation, as March 2nd has been set as the date in which the next iPad will be revealed. According to this image, which was sent along with an invite to various media sources, something big is coming on March 2nd, and considering that an iPad is shown there in the corner, Apple would be disappointing everyone should they choose not to reveal at least something related to the next-gen iPad. The original iPad is going on one year old, and still, tablet makers are struggling to match its feature set and price point. A bunch of Honeycomb tablets are slated to be unveiled later in the year, but if the iPad 2 comes along and delivers an entirely... Read more...
If you would have told us yesterday that Apple's iPad 2 tablet was being delayed, possibly by up to 2 months, we'd conclude you're a tech savvy individual who follows the news. But if you tell people that today, well, you could be accused of being bat crap crazy. Short and to the point, Reuters says yesterday's rumor simply is a bunch of hogwash. "A report that the next version of Apple Inc's iPad tablet computer will be delayed is not true, according to a source familiar with the matter," Reuters said. And that's it. Reuters didn't disclose its source or provide any other details, other than to reiterate in a single sentence where the original report of a delay came from (Taiwanese brokerage... Read more...
Someone needs to tell Apple, "You better check yourself before you wreck yourself." Here's the deal. Steve Jobs and his merry Cupertino gang are in excellent shape in the emerging tablet market. The original (and current) iPad, even with all its quirks (like no Flash support, limited I/O ports, etc) set the bar by which all other tablets are to be measured. But with Motorola's Xoom launching later this week, Google's Honeycomb era is about to begin, and combined with upgraded hardware, the iPad may finally fall from its throne. Of course, Apple isn't standing still and from what we know so far, the iPad 2 is looking like a worthy successor. It should be faster, lighter, better equipped, and cost... Read more...
If you're trying to stay ahead of the upgrade curve, now might be a good time to consider listing your iPad on Ebay or Craigslist, if you can manage without it for a couple of months. According to reports, production on Apple's second generation iPad -- which we'll go ahead and call the iPad 2 -- has already begun and might be the only real iPad killer on the horizon. Citing "people familiar with the matter," The Wall Street Journal says the iPad 2 will come equipped with a faster processor, burlier graphics capabilities, at least one built-in camera (front-facing for videoconferencing and presumably FaceTime), and more memory. All this and it's supposed to be both thinner and lighter, too. Don't... Read more...
The iPad 2 will get some ergonomic tweaks, according to a report in a Japanese tech blog, MacOtakara. The report cites an anonymous Chinese source, which could mean a worker at one of Foxconn's plants. The report states that the screen size of the iPad 2 will remain the same, which is logical since Steve Jobs famously said that 10 inches is the minimum effective size for a tablet's screen. Despite that, by reducing the size of the bezel around the screen, the iPad 2 will be smaller measuring 239mm by 186mm. The current iPad measures 242.8 mm by 189.7 mm, and was criticized for its wide bezel when it was first unveiled. Additionally, the iPad 2 will receive a flat back, to address a different... It doesn't appear Santa's elves (or Apple's engineering team) will come up with an iPad 2 in time for the holidays, but according to the latest rumor mill chatter, the Cupertino outfit is planning to release its second generation tablet perhaps by the end of February in 2011. That's according to DigiTimes, which managed to extract quite a bit of info from its sources. Apparently Foxconn's plants in China have been told they will be shipping the iPad 2 in the next 100 days, and not just a small batch, but up to 600,000 units initially. According to DigiTimes, Apple originally wanted mass production of the iPad 2 to begin in January, but that ended up being postponed to give Apple more time to... Read more...
It might seem a little premature to discuss Apple's second generation iPad when the first-run tablet is one of only a very small handful of slates in existence, but if the Cupertino outfit sticks to its normal product refresh cycle, it will only be another five months before the iPad 2 hits store shelves. So what does Steve Jobs and Co. have planned for Apple's next tablet? According to Chinese-language Economy Daily News (EDN), you can expect five new features in the iPad 2, including: Video phone Better mobility USB port New display technology 3-axis gyroscopes Given that the iPhone and iPod touch both support FaceTime, that one's almost a given, which means the iPad 2 will ship with at least... In the coming months, expect a torrential downpour of tablets from manufacturers left and right. We're not talking about just five or six models either, but potentially dozens of slates, each one intent on dethroning Apple's iPad as the current default granddaddy. But while other manufacturers are gearing up to give Apple a bit of competition in the tablet space, there's already a talk of another iPad on the horizon, one that will address some of the shortcomings of its current-gen slate and could potentially keep the iPad in front of the pack. The latest rumors come from DigiTimes, which is reporting that component suppliers, including touch panel reinforced glass suppliers for Apple's iPad,... Read more...
