Smartphone makers have wisely prioritized camera performance as a top feature on their high-end handsets, and even some mid-range and entry-level phones boast solid photo taking capabilities these days. One of the best phone cameras we've played with is on the Pixel 3 series. Well, rumor has it that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 will feature an upgraded camera that is every bit as good as the Google Pixel 3 in low light situations. We don't know this for a fact, of course, and it will be impossible to know for sure until we've spent some hands on time with the Galaxy S10. Obviously we can't do that at the moment. However, there is evidence to suggest that Samsung is working on a "Bright Night"... Read more...
We've seen lots of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S10, which will be among the first smartphone to launch with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor (at least in the United States). Rumors have hinted that there would be multiple S10 versions with an entry-level S10 packing 4GB of RAM, an S10 Plus with 6GB of RAM, S10 X with 6GB of RAM, and a version of the S10 with 12GB of RAM and 5G connectivity. A new rumor is now making the rounds, and this one is a bit scary. According to this new rumor, the S10 will launch with an insanely high price for the higher-end models. On the deep end of the S10 range is tipped an S10 Plus with 1TB of storage inside for a whopping $1,765. It's rather hard to... Read more...
It will probably still be several weeks until Samsung officially announces its Galaxy S10 series, which could consist of three separate handsets. Leaks and rumors have been commonplace leading up to the launch. However, a case maker may have provided the best reveal yet of what all three Galaxy S10 smartphones will look like. Olixar, a maker of "premium smartphone and tablet accessories from cases to pocket sized selfie poles" (according to the company's own description), has already made available a range of Galaxy S10 cases for pre-order. These consist of hard shell cases (ArmourDillo), flexible gel cases (FlexiShield and Ultra-Thin)), and bumper cases (NovaShield). Image Source: GSMArena via... Read more...
As you probably already know by now, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 will be available in a number of configurations. At last count, there will be at least four variants, with a range-topping version including 5G support. However, at the bottom of the totem pole will allegedly be the Galaxy S10 Lite. Noted leaker Ice_Universe has posted what he claims to be a protective display film for the upcoming Galaxy S10 Lite.  Although it's hard to make out from image, if you look closely you can see a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. There's not much else that we can glean from the protective film other than that it looks like the Galaxy S10 Lite will have uniform bezels all around... Read more...
The Galaxy S10 leaks and rumors keep rolling in, and we imagine they will continue to do so until Samsung finally introduces its next flagship handset, likely on around Mobile World Congress in February. So, we're still several weeks away from knowing what exactly the Galaxy S10 will bring to the table. In the meantime, a fresh batch of leaked images has emerged. Image Source: Slash Gear We obviously can't say if the images are real or fake renders, though the designs are certainly plausible. The pictures highlight the rumored rear triple camera arrangement the Galaxy S10 is expected to wield. What's interesting, though, is that the images don't look exactly the same—this is notably observed... Read more...
A new benchmark published by Twitter user Ice Universe may give us our first look at the power inside of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 Plus smartphone flagship. Samsung's Galaxy S10 Plus will utilize the company's new Exynos 9820, which is a rather complex and unique SoC. It has eight CPU cores split into three groups. Two of the cores use ARM's Cortex-A75 architecture, and there are two cores based on a custom CPU architecture designed by Samsung. The last four cores all use the Cortex-A55 architecture and are intended for low-power tasks. The Exynos 9820 also has a powerful GPU based on ARM's Mali-G76 architecture with 12 EUs. Samsung also added an NPU, which is a specialized processing unit... Read more...
It looks as though Samsung is going all-out for the tenth anniversary of its flagship Galaxy S family. According to a fresh report out today, there will be no less than four versions of the upcoming Galaxy S10. There will reportedly be a phone codenamed Beyond 0, which will serve as a low-cost entry-level model. There will also be a Beyond 1 and Beyond 2, which will allegedly replace the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively. However, what everyone will likely have their eyes on has the codename Beyond X. This smartphone will reportedly feature a massive 6.7-inch display (compared to a reported 6.4 inches for the Galaxy Note 9 and Beyond 2). There's no word on what the resolution... Read more...
We may have our first look at the actual Infinity O display that could be the standout feature of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 smartphone. A leaked image purporting to be exactly that has surfaced on the web, though it's a blurry, low quality picture, as is often frustratingly the case with these types of things. The Infinity O display is rumored to introduced a new full-screen design with a punch-hole in the upper-left corner. This punch-hole is said to be a cutout for the front-facing selfie camera, and is key to enabling a notchless design and ditching a traditional bezel. A notch still isn't out of the question, though Samsung sort of backed itself into a corner after it mocked Apple for... Read more...
It looks as though Samsung's next flagship phone, the Galaxy S10, will feature a full-front display instead of a notched design or a chunky bezel. Samsung has not yet officially announced the Galaxy S10, of course, but a recently discovered patent filing may provide clues as to what direction the company is taking its Galaxy line. This is an interesting time for Samsung. The company recently teased a prototype of a folding smartphone with an Infinity Flex display that allows it to double as a tablet, somewhat putting an end to all the rumors and speculation to that point. In similar fashion, there have been plenty of rumors and speculation in regards to the Galaxy S10, and specifically its display.... Read more...
One thing is always certain in the smartphone space—something newer, faster, and presumably better is right around the corner at any given time. New models roll off the lot at the same clip as automobiles. For Samsung, that means an inevitable Galaxy S10 is in the cards, and if the latest bit of leaked information is accurate, it will bring some big design changes to the Galaxy line. The biggest one is a supposed "punch hole" element in the front display to house the front-facing selfie camera. Could this be the "Infinity-V" display that Samsung recently trademarked with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (Korea's equivalent of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO)?... Samsung may be getting ready to announce its next-generation Exynos 9820 system-on-chip (SoC), if a recent Twitter post is any indication. The South Korean electronics maker posted a teaser image to its Samsung Exynos account, and it shows a mystery chip emerging from the side of an unidentified smartphone, perhaps the Galaxy S10. To be clear, Samsung has not yet announced a Galaxy S10 smartphone, nor has it said anything about a Exynos 9820 processor. However, there have been several rumors pointing to the latter, dating back to at least this past June when notorious leaker Ice Universe claimed the Exynos 9820's Mongoose M4 cores would deliver performance "far beyond" that of ARM's Cortex-A76... Over the past few months we've heard some pretty interesting rumors about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship. One of the rumored features that is most likely to come to fruition is the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint sensor, replacing the rear-mounted sensor on current Galaxy smartphones. One other feature reportedly on tap for at least some variants of the Galaxy S10 is a completely notch-free display. This rumor has been fueled by patents that Samsung filed for sensors embedded within the display -- including selfie cameras -- and the company's recent move to mock notched smartphones like the Google Pixel 3 XL. The hidden camera technology under... Read more...
At some point, Samsung is going to release a Galaxy S10 handset, or less likely a Galaxy S-X if it wants to borrow a page from Apple (i.e., iPhone X series instead of iPhone 10). We can expect faster hardware, like a Snapdragon 855 or 8150, and improved camera performance, both of which are staples of new flagship phones. But what about the display? A new patent application may shed some light on what is in store for the Galaxy S10's screen. Samsung filed a patent application with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (Korea's equivalent of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO) for "Samsung Infinity-V." Samsung filed it under the "Classification 09" category, which includes... Read more...
Samsung is hoping to knock it out of the park with its upcoming Galaxy S10 family of flagship smartphones. Its current Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ haven’t exactly been [sales] winners for the company; in fact, reports suggest that they are the slowest selling Galaxy flagships since 2012. Given that the Galaxy S10 will represent the 10th anniversary of Samsung’s “S” line, the company has a host of fresh technology on deck to impress customers and spark a “super upgrade” cycle as we saw with the launch of the Apple iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus back in 2014. The latest rumor suggests that there will be four models: Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus,... Read more...
Samsung isn't exactly hip to the idea of display notches that seem to be proliferating in the smartphone market. In fact, the company has gone out of its way to mock manufacturers that have relied on the notch to expand the size of their display screens while minimizing bezels. Now we know the reason why Samsung is so confident in its ability to criticize others, while not seeming like a hypocrite for potentially falling into the same "notch trap" in the future. Samsung Display held a small event in Shenzhen, China this week in which it talked about advances it's making with OLED displays. Great news! Samsung established the direction of mobile phone design in 2019!On October 18th,... Read more...
U.S.-based wireless carriers are expected to start lighting up their first 5G wireless networks in late 2018 through early 2019, and enthusiasts that like to be on the bleeding edge are no doubt looking forward to the arrival of 5G smartphones. However, if you were expecting for Samsung's next Galaxy S iteration to have 5G, you're probably going to be disappointed by some new comments from a top company executive. At the Galaxy Note 9 unveil last week, Samsung Mobile President DJ Koh confirmed that the Galaxy S10 will not have integrated 5G wireless capabilities. According to Koh, there will be a "separate" smartphone released that will carry the torch as Samsung's first 5G mobile device. Although... Read more...
Samsung is just weeks away from launching its Galaxy Note 9 smartphone, which will serve as the company's ultimate flagship for 2018. However, could this be the end of the line for the long-running Galaxy Note series? It's possible according to a new report coming out of South Korea. As we all know, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note families have been increasingly meeting parity with regards to features. And when looking at the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 (and the Galaxy S9+ compared to the incoming Galaxy Note 9), there is very little to distinguish the two other than the inclusion of the S Pen on the latter.  In an effort to reduce R&D costs, the two lines could be merged in... It looks as though Samsung is finally getting fancy with the fingerprint sensor on its upcoming Galaxy S10 smartphone. A well known tipster quotes Samsung's mobile chief DJ Koh as saying the Galaxy S10 will not use an optical fingerprinting solution because the user experience is not where it should be, and instead will use a better screen fingerprinting solution. DJ Koh said that the Galaxy S10 does not use an optical fingerprinting solution because optical fingerprinting can cause a bad user experience. Otherwise, Samsung could adopt it two years ago. We will bring a better screen fingerprinting experience for S10. — Ice universe (@UniverseIce) July 16, 2018 The Galaxy Note 9 is not expected... Read more...
The point-and-shoot camera market has been decimated by smartphones, and the image quality and capabilities of flagship devices has increased with each new generation. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ saw the adoption of two cameras on the rear along with a variable aperture lens. The upcoming Galaxy S10+ could take things even further with an increase in the number of onboard cameras. A report from South Korean publication The Bell states that prototype Galaxy S10+ smartphones running around in Samsung's labs have a triple-camera setup on the back. It's reported that there will be a dual lens setup similar to what's on the current Galaxy S9+ (12MP wide-angle, 12MP telephoto) plus an... Read more...
As we reported earlier this morning, Galaxy S9 sales haven't exactly been through the roof for Samsung. While the Galaxy S9 remains a strong seller in the Android smartphone market, it wasn't exactly a quantum leap in design or features over its predecessor: the Galaxy S8. Samsung is looking to make a much bigger splash with next year's Galaxy S10, which is being developed under the codename "Beyond". A new report suggests that there will actually be three smartphones under the Galaxy S10 moniker in 2019 instead of the usual two. The models are currently designated Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2. Beyond 0 would be a new, entry-level model with a fingerprint reader mounted on the side of... Read more...
When it comes to 3D facial recognition technology, Apple beat Samsung to the punch with the iPhone X and its Face ID feature. However, there has been chatter that Samsung will implement a similar feature into its next generation Galaxy handset, presumably the Galaxy S10 and/or the Galaxy S10+. Lending some credibility to the rumors is the discovery of a patent application that covers the necessary technology for this type of biometric security. The patent application was approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) late in the second quarter of 2018, according to Patently Apple. It lays out the details for a biometric camera that can be integrated into a mobile device and... Read more...
With smartphones going to designs that have screens covering so much of the front that the traditional fingerprint sensor can no longer fit, what to do with those sensors is a topic that manufacturers have been working on. Apple removed the fingerprint scanner for its iPhone X and instead opted for Face ID technology. Samsung has a fingerprint scanning system that will go into the Galaxy S10 that is very non-traditional. The company has seemingly confirmed that it will use a fingerprint scanner that is embedded in the screen of the smartphone. This scanner will reportedly use Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint scanner tech. It uses ultrasonic waves that change in intensity and position... Read more...
