If Asus doesn't make a machine you like (or are at least fond of in some way), you aren't looking hard enough. As the company famous for putting the netbook (and thus, the Eee PC) on the map continues to broaden its horizons in the notebook market, it's taking a breather from shipping new "Seashell" machines to introduce a horse of a startlingly different color. The Eee PC T91 is unlike any Eee PC we've seen before, namely because the screen can be spun around and flipped down. tablet PC style. This so-called "netvertible" sector is still in its earliest stages, making the T91 one of the first netbooks available that also doubles as a full-fledged Tablet PC. Furthermore, it's one of the few netbooks... Read more...
It's hard to believe that the machine we'll be inspecting in the pages ahead is actually real and shipping. It's not so much a feat of engineering as it is a feat in product development. You see, we just wrapped up our evaluation of Asus' 1008HA Seashell three weeks ago, and already we're being treated to the second "Seashell" model to ship stateside, the Eee PC 1005HA.The 1005HA is undoubtedly a member of the expanding Eee PC lineup, and while it's numbered lower than the aforesaid 1008HA, there are actually a few aspects that we prefer on this model versus its predecessor. Actually, maybe predecessor isn't the proper term; it's not like the 1005HA is taking the place of the 1008HA. In fact,... Read more...

We have no issues with companies setting high goals, but this one's amongst the tallest of tall orders that we've seen. Currently, Apple is atop its game. Never before has the company been so iconic and influential in society, and it's pretty much a given that Apple's media players are the ones to beat. Heck, even its smartphone is giving rivals from RIM, HTC and Palm a run for their money. That said, we still feel Asus' ambitions to "out-Apple Apple" aren't totally far-fetched. Just a few years ago, Asus was a name known only by PC enthusiasts. Mainstream consumers pointed their notebook purchases at Dell and HP, while Asus sat in the back corner struggling to be taken seriously. Now, it's a... Read more...
Today, we're looking at the very first Asus Eee PC netbook that looks nothing at all like its predecessors. In fact, we'd wager that Asus included this machine in its Eee PC line simply because of the brand recognition.Although, Asus isn't content with labeling this only an Eee PC. The Eee PC 1008HA is the first member of the burgeoning "Seashell" line, a family that already includes this machine and the to-be-released 1005HA. The 1008HA was originally unveiled in March at the CeBIT conference in Germany, but the ultra-slim laptop has just now started filtering out to the US market.Asus Eee PC 1008HA "Seashell" Review... Anyone who has followed Asus' continually expanding Eee PC line will understand just how significant a diversion the product we'll be looking at in this showcase is for the company. Since the very beginning, Asus' pioneering netbooks designs have looked about like the Eee PC 1000HE that we reviewed back in February. Simple, if not boxy enclosures were a given, and while you may find a few curves or accents here or there, you could tell that style was not always in the foreground with these utilitarian, low-cost notebooks. Today, we're looking at the very first Eee PC netbook that looks nothing at all like its predecessors. In fact, we'd wager that Asus included this machine... Read more...
We've always heard that setting your sights high was the best way to come close, but evidently Asus isn't up to speed on that mantra. Currently, it's the world's fifth largest PC maker, and while one might assume that it would aspire to be number one, a recent Reuters report says otherwise. In fact, it's openly aiming to grab the bronze medal by 2011 -- but again, who's satisfied with third place? To be candid, we have all ideas that the CEO would love to overtake Dell, Acer and HP in order to become the planet's largest PC maker, but maybe it's just being realistic here. Indeed, jumping up two spots in the rankings within three years is still a mighty tall order, but with its hot-as-fire Eee... Read more...

If you're in the market for a new ultraportable, you should definitely take a glance at Asus' newest offerings. Branching out from its basic Eee PCs and monsterous gaming rigs, the company has followed up its stylish U Series with the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA, a computer that's barely worthy of the Eee PC name. In fact, we'd say it could be sold on its own -- it's just a different breed of Eee entirely. The miniature notebook weighs in at 1.1kg (2.42 pounds) and includes a 10" display, ergonomically designed keyboard, intelligent energy management system and an intuitive multi-touch touchpad. The most striking difference between this Eee PC and the others (like the 1000HE) is the stunning exterior.... Read more...

We can't believe we're saying this, but we haven't seen a new Eee PC netbook in quite some time! Nevertheless, Asus is making sure the lineup stays fresh with an all new addition: the Eee PC 1004DN. What's so special about this one over all the rest? First off, it's the first Eee PC netbook to feature a Super-Multi optical disc drive, meaning that owners will be able to read and burn CDs / DVDs for the first time on an Eee PC. The unit also includes an ExpressCard slot, the company's Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) technology for extending battery life while on-the-go, a high-gloss UV LCD cover, 10-inch panel capable of handling 720p content, brushed aluminum gracing the palm rest and an electroplated... Today we’ve got a detailed look at the latest revision of the Asus line of Eee PC 1000 series netbooks – the Asus Eee PC 1000HE.  Asus continues to refine their hugely successful 10” netbook family.    Here’s a snip: The fit and finish, build quality and overall allure of this machine isn't all that different versus its closely related family members. And, as you can certainly tell from the model number, Asus didn't intend for it to be any huge departure from the norm. In fact, the 1000HE leads you on to believe that this is simply an Extended version (in terms of battery life, not cargo room) of the existing 1000H. In many ways, that's absolutely true, but as you'll see when venturing... Read more...
