Ah, the best laid plans. The cover of the Madden NFL '09 game was supposed to pay homage to the retiring Brett Favre. But then he decided to un-retire! What to do, what to do? Well, as far as EBGames goes, PhotoShop is the answer. The box is above, but see the below of their home page, as of this morning. Yep, they PhotoShopped the image of Favre into a Jets uniform. Besides that, Electronic Arts (EA) has also said the following:Madden NFL 09 will hit stores on Aug 12 with Brett Favre on the cover in his Green Bay Packers uniform. We do not plan to re-issue packaging, but WILL offer a free downloadable cover in the coming days on easports.com featuring Brett Favre in a Jets uniform. Fans can... Read more...
In some respects, when we think about what the capabilities of a $349 desktop system should be like, we can't help but be impressed what Asus has achieved and the overall value of the Eee Box. What's more impressive though is the Eee Box's absolutely tiny form-factor and completely miserly power consumption. The original Eee PC notebook cultivated quite an enthusiastic following in the marketplace and we think the Eee Box is likely to as well.Asus Eee Box B202 Video SpotlightOur more detailed full review can be found here.... Asus certainly made a splash this year with their line of ultra-light, ultra-affordable Eee PC notebooks and they've been fleshing out the product line ever since with a wealth of new offerings, as the company continues to milk the product's successful brand name recognition for all it's worth.  Since their initial release we've seen a number of different notebook-based Eee PC products come to market, including machines pre-loaded with either Windows XP or Linux operating systems.  In addition, Asus has even brought out larger models, with the 10" display and near full size keyboard of the Eee PC 1000 series of notebooks, not to mention larger storage options... Rumors have been circulating of a possible $50 price cut for the Xbox 360 Pro, the 20 GB model. While still a rumor, more evidence has arisen which seems to not just point to a $50 price cut, but also to the day: this coming Sunday.Below is an image scanned from a Target flier. Not only is the price cut by $50, Target is throwing in a $25 gift card as well.To the right, you can see a scanned image from a Best Buy flier. They're not throwing in a gift card, so Target has the better deal, for those of you who are frugal. The last such price cut for the Xbox 360 Pro came in August 2007, when it was cut from $399 to $349.This does leave the Xbox 360 Core in an awkward price point, at only $20 less... McAfee has finally released the results of its S.P.A.M. (Spammed Persistently All Month) experiment, which began in March. The project: take 50 people from ten countries to defy common sense and for 30 days surf the Web on a computer with no anti-spam software. Not just that, they were to take risks, and respond to spam, to make matters worse.  The results were unsurprising. Of course, being the security company that it is, and having its own anti-spam product, McAfee has a vested interest in the results. It took less than 24 hours for the first spam message to reach an inbox. Over the 30 day project, the volunteers received 104,000 spam e-mails, or about 70 spam messages per day per participant.... A few weeks ago, we showed you some pictures of what was supposed to be the ASUS Eee Box desktop PC.  Initially, the images evoked mixed reactions from readers.  Some thought the Eee Box looked just like a Nintendo Wii, while others questioned whether or not the images were real at all.In the weeks that followed, more news regarding the ASUS Eee Box desktop hit the web and any speculation that the images were 'faked' were eliminated.  And today, we can finally put an official stamp on the images because ASUS has revealed the final specifications for what will become the first batch of Eee Box desktop systems.  Take a look... Microsoft had all sorts of trouble with the reliability of its XBox 360. Tales of the "Red Ring of Death" gave potential buyers pause, and Microsoft spend a small fortune replacing defective units. One of the main reasons the game console was so fragile is that the 90nm scale GPU ran very hot. 65nm chips to the rescue!Microsoft will make available its Jasper version of XBox360 game consoles in August this year and has contracted dedicated chipmakers to build chips for the latest machine. Contracts for manufacturing, packaging and testing the 65nm Xenon microprocessors have gone to International Business Machines (IBM).TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is chosen to make the 65nm... When we first heard about Psystar and their Open Computer that could run OS X, we were understandably skeptical.  It didn’t help that numerous news agencies around the country were having difficulty tracking the company down.   But all of that is the past, Psystar is shipping units and a review site has finally gotten their hands on one. While review sites that focus mostly on Apple products tend to be unimpressed with the overall unboxing and boot experiences, they are claiming that the machines deliver on what they promise:“I’ve been impressed by how compatible the Psystar is with applications and peripherals—many of the OS X features work as they would on a legitimate Mac.  Look for Speedmark... In the last half year, Dell has been busy revamping their entire desktop XPS lineup. First came the XPS 420 late last year, a premium multimedia workstation. Then Dell introduced a new mid-range gaming oriented desktop, the XPS 630 early this year. The 630 is a mid-tower sized gaming desktop styled after the flagship XPS 700 series but with more affordable components and a relatively thrifty price tag. We found the XPS 630 to be an excellent machine in our evaluation. While these new additions to Dell's desktop XPS lineup were certainly welcome, we hadn't seen a major update to the flagship 700 series in over a year and we were beginning to wonder if Dell would ever get around to it. With... Read more...
The intoxicating smell of fresh paint was the first sensation to greet us when we opened up a very special package from Diamond Multimedia and Smooth Creations. This was quickly followed by jaw-dropping awe as we admired the meticulous detail of the system's custom paint job. Speculating at the power waiting to be unleashed under its hood, we were jonseing to fire the rig up and pwn some noobs. But before we could do that, we wanted to share our experience of unboxing the machine with you--minus the heavy lifting and the paint fumes.Smooth Creations Broodling Unboxed... Read more...

The folks over at Engadget appear to have received an actual Psystar Open Computer Mac clone, and they've posted a number of photos from the system's unboxing. The case looks to be the same design as appeared in the video post we wrote about yesterday. Which means we're probably going to have to eat our words: We theorized that the video was just an elaborate OSx86 Project hoax. We'll have to check back in with Engadget to see what their experience is once they power the system up.... Read more...
Remember the father who sold his pot-smoking son's Guitar Hero III game on eBay as punishment? The father netted $9K in that auction. The mom here won't get that much, but at least she's teaching her kid a lesson.A 13-year-old kid in Virginia has backtalked to his mom for the last time. When he was told to do his chores instead of play Xbox 360, he went and intentionally broke the vacuum cleaner to get out of it. What'd his mom do? Well, she's selling his Xbox and all his games on eBay. And that was before she found out he was surfing porn sites by checking out his browser's cookies.Porn on a teenage boy's PC?  No!  Let's hope she gets enough for a new vacuum.  eBay needs a new... The rumor keeps circulating that Microsoft is indeed going to include a Blu-ray player in future Xbox 360s.  Microsoft continually denies the rumors, such as the one started by DigiTimes regarding a deal with Lite-On to manufacture said drive.Microsoft's PR department had this say:“No. Lite-On is not manufacturing Blu-ray drives for Xbox 360. As we have stated, games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster game available.“For our customers who want a premium movie experience we offer the largest library of on-demand HD content available and the ability to play back DVDs in high definition.“Microsoft seems... We're always on the lookout for Asus Eee PC updates and today we've come up with some breaking news for you relative to the Windows XP variant that is due to hit the market in April.  Actually, it's more than just some breaking news; we've got one.  Though the machine isn't due out until sometime in the next few weeks, we were able to get our hands on a full retail bundle well before they hit store shelves in the US.  The included operating system, software and add-in bundle is really the only thing that differentiates this Eee PC version, versus the Linux-based 4G model that we looked at for you back in November 2007.  Let's take a... The scoop wire was running late tonight and these shots of Asus' upcoming Eee Desktop made their way to our inbox just now, so we thought we'd give you the digital relay on the skinny... literally.  Though it's hard to get a sense of size here, this thing is obviously svelte.  We don't have firm details but since this is an Asus "Eee" product, we can assume it follows the same mantra of "Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play".  Maybe a beefed up Linux distro and application bundle?  We'll see...   We should caution you that these are not "official" pictures per se.  In fact, we can't really comment on the source of these pics except to say that they are indeed... Some say Microsoft chose poorly when they backed Toshiba's HD DVD standard, and that had Microsoft backed Blu-ray instead, there wouldn't have been much of a format war.  There's another group, including Michael Bay, that thinks Microsoft intentionally chose a standard that they didn't think would win in an attempt to undermine consumer confidence in disc formats altogether.  Why?So they could build up their HD content on their digital distribution service:"Microsoft has been expanding the HD video capabilities of both Vista Media Center and Xbox Live Marketplace. The Marketplace's HD content library is modest today, but the software giant clearly has plans to change that. So, let's put everything... Read more...
