SanDisk Extreme Pro Solid State Drives Reviewed

Performance Summary: SanDisk’s Extreme Pro series of solid state drives performed very well throughout our entire battery of tests. They faltered a bit in our IOMeter tests, but consistently offered some of the best read performance we have seen to date, with excellent access times, and competitive write performance as well. The drives excelled with large sequential transfers, and with small random transfers at higher queue depths. Performance with SanDisk’s Extreme Pro drives is also consistent regardless of the compressibility of the data being used and the trace-based PCMark tests showed the drives competing with some of the best SSDs out there.

As we’ve mentioned, SanDisk will initially be offering three drives in the Extreme II series of products with 240GB, 480GB and 960GB capacities. Pricing for the drives is hovering around $160 (240GB), $295 (480GB), and $499 (960GB). At those prices, the SanDisk Extreme Pro series of drives are competitive with major offerings from other manufacturers. Considering the consistently high performance of the drives and the absolutely awesome 10 year warranty SanDisk is offering, these drives look even stronger.

In the end, we think SanDisk’s Extreme Pro series of solid state drives are top-notch and worthy of consideration for your next build or upgrade. Overall performance is very good, the drives offer high endurance and they’re backed by an industry-leading warranty from a company that’s been around for ages. If you’re looking for a high-performance SSD, SanDisk’s Extreme Pro series of drives should be on your short list of possible contenders.
