HP Pro Slate 8 Review: Nifty Duet Pen, Premium Pricing
Performance: Browsing & JavaScript
The first benchmark we ran on HP's Pro Slate 8 was the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark. According to the SunSpider website:
This benchmark tests the core JavaScript language only, not the DOM or other browser APIs. It is designed to compare different versions of the same browser, and different browsers to each other. Unlike many widely available JavaScript benchmarks, this test is real world, balanced and statistically sound.
The Pro Slate 8 finished right in the middle of the pack in SunSpider. We also tested the tablet using Browsermark 2.1, which tests devices across a variety of situations: 2D and 3D performance; how fast a device's browser can create dynamic content; Canvas, SVG, and WebGL performance; and a number of Javascript tests.
HP's Pro Slate 8 didn't perform as well as we expected it would on both tests. More than half the tablets on both tests outperformed HP's tablet, which is concerning, because the HP Pro Slate 8 tends to cost a bit more than its better-performing competition.
