Corsair TWINX2048-3500LL PRO

As we've said in the past, Corsair's XMS (Xtreme Memory Speed) memory modules have been longtime favorites amongst the computer enthusiast community. Corsair has memory kits available in many different capacities and speeds, and virtually all of them are regarded as some of the best modules available in their respective classes. Some of their more highly regarded modules are the "low-latency" kits in the "Pro" series. Low-latency memory offers better overall performance than similarly clocked memory with higher latencies. Chips capable of higher clock speeds, however, offer more bandwidth and better performance for the most part, but memory kits based on these high-speed modules aren't a good fit for all types of consumers, because they typically require users to run their processor or FSB out of spec.

Today on HotHardware, we'll be shining the spotlight on Corsair's TWINX2048-3500LL PRO kit (2GB, 2x1GB CMX1024-3500LL PRO DIMMs). These double-sided PC3500 DIMMs sport higher capacity chips than most modules, and are capable of running with a CAS Latency of 2T, a RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD) of 3T, a Row Precharge (tRP) of 2T and an Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS) of 3T (2-3-2-6) at 218MHz (DDR436). And as you'll see later, with less aggressive timings they'll run even faster.

Corsair's packaging claims the TWINX2048-3500LL PRO kit is a perfect fit for Asus' A8N32-SLI motherboard, but in actuality this memory is a good match for any high-end system that requires standard DDR memory. In typical fashion, the packaging is loaded with awards given to Corsair in the past, and it also gives some detail about the product's specifications. There is no bundle to speak of, which is expected, given the fact that this is a memory kit and doesn't require any accessories in order to function.

Even before being exposed to the Commodore P.E.T. and later the Commodore 64 in the early ‘80s, he was interested in electricity and electronics, and he still has the modded AFX cars and shop-worn soldering irons to prove it. Once he got his hands on his own Commodore 64, however, computing became Marco's passion. Throughout his academic and professional lives, Marco has worked with virtually every major platform from the TRS-80 and Amiga, to today's high end, multi-core servers.
