SNES Classic Pre-order Mayhem Begin This Month Nintendo Confirms

The lead-up to the September launch of the Nintendo SNES Classic Edition has been accompanied by excitement, nostalgia, and miscommunication. The drama came to a head last week when Walmart canceled all SNES Classic Edition pre-orders that were made by Nintendo fans due to an alleged website glitch.

Thankfully, Nintendo is trying to calm the nerves of anxious gamers and has issued a statement regarding SNES Classic Edition pre-orders. Despite previous comments from Walmart support representatives, Nintendo says that pre-order will actually commence this month, although no exact date or time was given.

“We appreciate the incredible anticipation that exists for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, and can confirm that it will be made available for pre-order by various retailers late this month,” from Nintendo on its official Facebook page.

“A significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores for launch day, and throughout the balance of the calendar year.”

Nintendo is hoping to not repeat the supply issues that plagued the NES Classic Edition when it debuted last year. The Japanese gaming giant was unprepared for the incredible demand and was forced to increase production, even though it still never produced enough consoles that the market could support. To this day, the NES Classic Edition is fetching $200 or more on auction sites like eBay despite the fact that its retail price was a mere $59.99.

The SNES Classic Edition will come bundled two wired controllers and 21 games. You can see the full list of included games below:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

The SNES Classic Edition is priced at $79.99 and officially launches on September 29th.
