Nintendo SNES Classic Launches This Fall Rocking 21 Killer Games Including Star Fox 2

snes classic 2
OK, we’ve already forgotten about the NES Classic, because Nintendo today announced that it will launch a follow-up console: the Super Nintendo (SNES) Classic. Like the NES Classic, which launched with much fanfare late last year (and was continually out of stock at retail stores), the SNES Classic looks like a miniaturized version of its “retro” predecessor.

The NES Classic will of course ship with a number of classic games which ensures that it will be another sell-out product for Nintendo. There are only 21 games included (compared to 30 for the NES Classic), but you’ll find such gems as Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country and Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting.

Nintendo has even included Star Fox 2, which is a game that was previously unreleased for the SNES. However, to unlock Star Fox 2, you will have to at least complete the first level of the original Star Fox. Here’s the full list of games:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

Unlike the NES Classic, the SNES Classic will ship with two wired controllers. It also ships with an HDMI cable and an USB charging cable/AC adapter. The SNES Classic will be available starting September 29th priced at $79.99. However, we surely hope that Nintendo payed close attention regarding the inventory woes concerning the NES Classic and will be able to compensate with the SNES Classic.
