Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Image Leak Reveals Close Design Ties To Note 8 Predecessor

We hope that you like the look of the Galaxy Note 8, because it seems as though it will be more of the same when the Galaxy Note 9 launches early next month. Like the transition from the Galaxy S8 to the Galaxy S9, there are very little design changes to speak of with the Galaxy Note 9 according to a new image leak.

You'd have to pull out a magnifying glass to spot any real changes, and it appears that the hardware in the top bezel (cameras, sensors, etc.) is identical. About the only noticeable change that we can tell is a slightly smaller bottom chin/bezel. As we saw in earlier renders of the rear of the device, the fingerprint reader has been repositioned to under the dual cameras in a more central location. This will likely be appreciated by Galaxy Note 8 users that frequently found their finger resting on one of the camera's lenses rather than on the actual fingerprint reader.

However, what's more important than the exterior design is the hardware, and the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to deliver. It's rumored that the display will grow slightly to 6.4-inches (up from 6.3 inches) while the resolution will stay at 2960x1440. As with the Galaxy S9 that came before it, the Galaxy Note 9 will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor (Samsung Exynos 9810 for international versions), this time paired with at least 6GB of RAM (although we'd like to see 8GB to further differentiate it from the Galaxy S9+).

It is expected that 64GB of onboard storage will be standard, although a maximum of 512GB might be possible. We don't expect many changes with respect to the front-facing selfie camera, but don't be too surprised if the Galaxy Note 9 adopts the dual aperture lens setup of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Other items of note include a battery that has been bumped up to 4,000 mAh and the inclusion of a Bluetooth-equipped S Pen that can serve as a remote for media controls on the device.

The Galaxy Note 9 will launch at a Galaxy Unpacked event in New York on August 9th.
