Samsung is not too far away from its big debut of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship smartphones, which are tipped to make their big debut at MWC 2018. We already know about one of the processors that will go into the U.S. version of the Galaxy S9 family: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Today, however, Samsung is spilling the beans on its Exynos 9810 processor that will find its way into the international versions of the smartphones. Samsung says that its new 8-core SoC has four third-generation custom high-performance cores operating at a heady 2.9GHz. For less demanding tasks, there are four... Read more...
There's no question that when it comes to the flagship smartphone market, 2018 will be the year of the Snapdragon 845. Qualcomm announced the processor earlier this month, and revealed that it will be manufactured on a 10nm FinFET process (like its Snapdragon 835 predecessor) by Samsung. The Snapdragon 845 will also incorporate Qualcomm's Snapdragon X20 gigabit LTE modem (Cat. 18, 1.2Gbps). A leak, which was sourced from Weibo, sheds light on a number of new smartphones that will arrive in 2018 featuring the Snapdragon 845. Given how many Android OEMs flocked to the Snapdragon 835, there aren't... Read more...
The ink has barely dried on the press release announcing Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845, and there are already rumors swirling about its eventual successor: the Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 845 is built on a refined version of Samsung's 10nm FinFET process (an evolution of the tech used for the Snapdragon 835), however, the Snapdragon 855 will be built on new 7nm process technology. Whereas Samsung has been responsible for manufacturing both the Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 845, Nikkei is reporting that Qualcomm has selected TSMC to produce the Snapdragon 855. TMSC is also reportedly being tapped... Read more...
Are today's flagship smartphones fast enough? Have we reached the point of diminishing returns on processor upgrades? Who cares! As geeks and power users, one of the things we look forward to most with each new flagship phone launch is the performance bump that comes with it. That will again be the case when Samsung launches its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, as evidenced by some early benchmarks that popped up in Geekbench's database. Listed as "Samsung SM-G965UI," the new entry points to a Galaxy S9+ handset with an 8-core Qualcomm processor, presumably the Snapdragon 845 that we already know will... Read more...
Yesterday, Qualcomm gave us a sneak peek at its next generation mobile processor: the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform. Like its Snapdragon 835 predecessor, the Snapdragon 845 will be used in countless flagship Android smartphones arriving in 2018, and will also likely end up in future "Always Connected" Windows 10 mobile PCs. Today, Qualcomm is spilling the beans on some of the components that makeup the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, which now includes a Kyro 385 CPU. This revamped CPU features four high-performance cores operating at 2.8GHz (a 25 percent uplift over the Snapdragon 835) and four... Read more...
We've heard rumors for months, but Qualcomm today made it official. The Snapdragon 845 will be the flagship SoC used in next year's top Android smartphones. More specially, it's being called the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, fitting in with Qualcomm's currently nomenclature for its SoCs. At this time, we don't know much with regards to specifics for the Snapdragon 845, but it has been confirmed that it will still be manufactured on a 10nm FinFET process -- like its Snapdragon 835 predecessor -- and it will incorporate the Snapdragon X20 LTE modem for gigabit-class internet connectivity. Samsung... Read more...
Through its human resources service provider, Microsoft has posted a job listing that suggests its collaboration with Qualcomm will not end with shoving the company's Snapdragon 835 processors into its Surface laptops running Windows 10, but will extend to the Qualcomm's next-generation flagship SoC (system-on-chip), Snapdragon 845. That chip has not yet been released, but is next in line and will find its way into phones like Samsung's Galaxy S9. The job listing is for a "Hardware Test Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer," and specifically one who is an expert in Wi-Fi technologies and manufacturing.... Read more...
The newness hasn’t even worn off the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, but there’s already talk of its successor. Most reports seemed to agree that upcoming flagship will be called the Snapdragon 845, but the finer details are where there are some discrepancies between the varying reports. The latest news coming from MyDrivers suggests that the Snapdragon 845 will be still be based on a 10nm Low Power Early (LPE) FinFET process instead of Samsung’s second-generation Low Power Plus (LPP) process, which seems suspect. “With our successful 10LPE production experience, we have commenced production of the 10LPP...
