The OnePlus 6 has been officially announced, and if you've been following the leaks over the past few weeks (and months), then you know exactly what to expect.

First of all, let’s get the specs out of the way. OnePlus says that it wanted to give customers the fastest mobile experience possible, which means that the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The base configuration pairs that processor with 6GB of RAM, while the top configuration come with 8GB. Likewise, the base phone has 64GB of internal storage, while the range-topping model ups the ante with 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. An 8GB/128GB configuration fits neatly in between.

All other features are shared between the three phones, including a 6.28-inch 2280x1080 AMOLED display (19:9 aspect ratio), dual rear cameras (16MP + 20MP), a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, 16MP selfie camera, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, waterproofing, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and a 3300 mAh battery with Fast Charge support.

In addition to the glass display up front, the OnePlus 6 also features a glass back which helps to improve radio reception and looks pretty snazzy at the same time – especially in Mirror Black.

The OnePlus 6 comes from the factory with OxygenOS 5.1, which is based Android 8.1 Oreo. However, for the more adventurous out there, the OnePlus 6 is one of the few smartphones that supports the Android P Developer Preview, which is available to download now. Android P makes big changes to navigation in the operating system with the addition of new swipe gestures, but it also brings native support for notched displays, which the OnePlus 6 incorporates.

The notch on the OnePlus 6 houses the front-facing selfie camera, the ambient light sensor and earpiece. The notched display might invoke rolling eyes from some Android veterans, but it should be noted that OnePlus is providing an option within the display settings to mask the notch, giving you a more traditional viewing experience if you so desire.

The OnePlus 6 goes on sale May 22nd with a starting price of $529 for the 6GB/64GB configuration and $579 for the 8GB/128GB model. Stepping up to the flagship 8GB/128GB SKU will set you back $629. The phone will be available in Silk White, Midnight Black or Mirror Black.
