OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei recently promised to bring the OnePlus 5T's facial unlock feature to the regular OnePlus 5, citing "popular demand" as the the reason why. Now a few days later, Pei has begun to make good on that promise by way of an OxygenOS beta update. This is separate from the original Android 8.0 Oreo update that was made available last week, as that one did not include the coveted feature. The facial recognition upgrade is the most notable bullet point in the release notes for the new beta, though it is not the only feature. A software engineer has discovered that OnePlus is actively collecting certain data on its users without their knowledge or permission. But, as a part of something greater, it can do amazing things. Just like us.” OxygenOS is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and brings... Read more...
Smartphone startup OnePlus is gearing up to reveal its Android ROM, but the date for the unveiling is a matter of debate. The phone maker teased the ROM and announced its name – OxygenOS – and said “Stay tuned; more information is coming February 12th,” in its blog post. Some have taken that to mean that the download will be available on the 12th, but OnePlus now appears to plan only to provide more details (not a download) at the upcoming event. The new ROM comes after a parting with Cyanogen and some difficulties with India. OnePlus selected the name “OxygenOS” from fan suggestions, because “As... Read more...
