GTA 6 Extended Look Teased For Netflix Ahead Of Game Launch

At this point, Rockstar Games hardly needs to promote Grand Theft Auto VI, arguably the most anticipated video game of all time, and certainly the most anticipated game of 2026. The first two trailers have racked up a combined 464 million views on Rockstar's official YouTube channel, and that figure is probably closer to a billion views if counting views outside of the company's channel and on other platforms. Be that as it may, Rockstar is breaking from standard marketing convention for its next big reveal: a special on Netflix titled Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Look.

The Netflix special is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, August 26, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET (12:00 p.m. PT). Anyone who is not subscribed to Netflix won't have to kick rocks; they will just have to wait several hours—Rockstar says the same special will also post to its YouTube channel six hours later (9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT).

Ahead of the premiere, Rockstar posted a brief 26-second teaser video (embedded above). It does not show any actual gameplay, and instead features the game's protagonists, Jason and Lucia, against the neon lights of the fictional state of Leonida (inspired by Florida).

As several of the commenters have noted, today's teaser is effectively a trailer for a trailer. However, that could be selling it short. Rather than labeling the stream as Trailer 3, branding the event as an Extended Look strongly hints at a deeper dive into actual gameplay mechanics and maybe some of the missions (though we're speculating here). After over a year since the last trailer, fans are eager to see how Vice City looks, and the Netflix special might oblige.

What's clear is that Rockstar has begun ramping up its marketing for GTA VI. Some of the positive momentum heading into the game's release has recently veered off into slightly controversial territory, with Rockstar confirming it will not ship actual discs, even with the physical copies. While physical copies will come with a case, a game code will be tucked inside instead of a disc.

This premiere puts the focus back on the game itself. It also marks a notable shift for both companies. Netflix has spent recent years building out its gaming business, and hosting the premiere of gaming's most anticipated showcase gives the platform a massive spotlight.
