If you're planning to go the Ryzen Threadripper route with your new build, but haven't yet settled on a motherboard choice, Gigabyte has thrown yet another option onto the pile. While most Threadripper motherboards released up to this point are noteworthy in their own right, the new X399 DESIGNARE EX does manage to stand apart from the crowd. First, let's start with the aesthetics, which are downright awesome on this motherboard. The vast majority of Threadripper boards released thus far have stuck to a very black or dark aesthetic, whereas with its DESIGNAIRE EX, Gigabyte lightens things up a... Read more...
At its launch, one of the most common complaints about AMD's Radeon RX Vega cards was their reference cooler, and in particular, its weak cooling performance. Reference coolers are rarely that impressive, but it was especially true with a powerful GPU like Vega. Immediately, people yearned to see what companies like Gigabyte would release to one-up that reference design. It didn't seem likely at first that Gigabyte was even going to release its own variant of the Vega 64, but lo and behold, it's happened. What you see below is the company's GAMING OC, sporting not just two large fans, but a large... Read more...
Gigabyte has gone and beefed up the graphics processor in its thin and relatively light Aero 15 gaming laptop. The new Aero 15 X model swaps out the GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5 memory found in the non-X SKU to a more powerful GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB of GDDR5 memory. Beyond being a burlier GPU, the new model laptop also boasts NVIDIA's Max-Q technology.Max-Q is the secret sauce to cooking up thinner and lighter laptops for gaming, such as the excellent ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 that we reviewed this past summer. The chips that are inserted into Max-Q laptops are selectively binned based on... Read more...
Today we are going to take a look at three popular Intel Z270-based motherboards targeted at power users and gamers, produced by enthusiast favorites Gigabyte, ASUS and MSI. The three boards we've rounded-up here cover a wide range of price points. The Gigabyte Aorus Z270X-Gaming K5 and ASUS ROG STRIX Z270F Gaming boards represent more mainstream segments, while the MSI Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium targets the ultra high-end. Although AMD's powerful Threadripper processors and Intel's upcoming 18-Core Skylake-X behemoth have gotten the lion's share of attention lately, more mainstream processors... Read more...

NVIDIA’s Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1080 GPU has been around for over a year now, so there’s isn’t seemingly much that could possibly be done to make us all that excited about the chip at this point, right? Well, someone didn’t get that memo to Gigabyte, as the hardware company has announced a genuinely interesting take on the popular GTX 1080 by putting all of that 4K graphics processing power into an incredibly small form-factor. Meet the GeForce GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G, which crams all of the ferocity of the standard GeForce GTX 1080 (which measures 26.7cm in length) into to a card that measures... Read more...
Gigabyte is running a very cool promotion for its X299-based motherboards and is offering new owners what it’s calling an “X299 Xperience Pack”, if they register the boards before September 14. If you are planning to build a system around a high-end desktop (HEDT) processor, then you probably have AMD's upcoming Threadripper launch on your radar. We will have to wait and see how things shake out, but on paper, Threadripper looks impressive—compared to Intel's HEDT lineup, Threadripper offers more cores and threads per dollar, along with more PCIe lanes for decked out configurations with multiple graphics cards and those fancy NVMe M.2 SSDs. Of course, performance will depend on the motherboard as well, and mobo makers are starting to reveal their Threadripper-compatible lineups.A spattering... Read more...
We have already seen some impressive things from AMD's long awaited Zen microarchitecture in the form of Ryzen, and in the not-too-distant future Threadripper will carry the torch on the desktop. However, things are just getting started. Zen will really spread its wings in the server and data center market, boy-oh-boy does Gigabyte have one heck of a motherboard ready. Gigabyte's new MZ31-AR0 has a boring name but a fun assortment of features of AMD's aptly named EPYC 7000 series processor family. Many of them are overkill for the desktop, including the 16 (yes, SIXTEEN) memory slots that support... Read more...
Preorders are currently underway for Intel’s new Core X-Series processors, which range from the quad-core, quad-thread Core i5-7640X ($242) to the 8-core, 36-thread Core i9-7980XE ($1,999). These new Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors require a brand-new chipset, the X299, and motherboard manufacturers have responded by providing a number of new offerings hitting multiple price points. Luckily, we’ve got a quick roundup of new X299 motherboards from EVGA, Gigabyte and MSI to get you started on your search for the perfect companion for your new Core X processor. ASUS ASUS has a total of seven... Read more...
There are plenty of GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards to choose from, assuming you're in the market for a top-shelf solution for high-end and/or 4K gaming. However, the field of contenders quickly begins to diminish when you weed out all of the air-cooled variants and limited your search to just liquid-cooled cards. One such card that falls into the latter category is Gigabyte's Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition 11G. That is quite the mouthful, though there is plenty more here than just a long-winded name. Gigabyte's newest GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is an enthusiast solution for... Read more...
Motherboard makers have an obvious vested interested in the overclocking scene where limits are pushed and records are broken. With that in mind, Gigabyte is in full chest-thumping mode after hosting an X299 OC gathering in which experienced overclockers used one of its X299 motherboards to push an Intel Core i7-7740K processor all the way to 7.5GHz and slightly beyond. The gathering brought in some big names from the overclocking community, including HiCookie, Sofos, Dinos22, Youngpro, and SniperOZ. All of them toiled away through Computex en route to setting four new 3DMark world records at crazy... Read more...
