The Droid Charge by Samsung is the second 4G smartphone to come to Verizon's 4G LTE network. It has a gorgeous 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, an 8MP camera with flash and Samsung's slick custom skin for Android 2.2.  We're running this pocket rocket through its paces here in the HH Test Lab but we thought you'd like a quick glimpse of what the phone is made of and what it can do.  We're taking it to the city today, to grab some 4G LTE lightning in Beantown but in the meantime, we go hands-on here in our video review -- for your geek pleasure. The Charge is nice and light-weight, but has a stout 1600 mAh battery on board and claims 11 hours of available talk time with 280 hours on standby. ... Read more...
Of the six smart phones on the market that run Microsoft's latest phone OS, Windows Phone 7, HTC designed and manufactures three of them. It's latest, and most expensive, is Sprint's first-and currently only-WP7 option, the HTC Arrive and it arrived at Sprint just last month. Meanwhile, prices on WP7 phones from AT&T and T-Mobile have recently been drastically reduced. (You don't have to pay more than $100 for the other HTC phones or the Dell Venue Pro, and can pick up a Samsung Focus or LG Quantum for as little as $49). Yet, Sprint still wants $199 for the HTC Arrive and that's with a two-year contract. That said, the HTC Arrive offers a combination of Microsoft's latest and easily most... Read more...
HTC was the first manufacturer to provide a 4G phone though a US carrier when it shipped the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint. At the end of last year, HTC promised it would once again be the first to 4G with another carrier. And days later, the company announced the Thunderbolt smartphone with Verizon Wireless.  It's been a few months since the announcement, and although there were many rumored release dates for the phone, it only recently became available for consumers to purchase. As the first 4G LTE device in the United States, the Thunderbolt is definitely a hot smartphone that many users can't wait to get their hands on. Not only does it boast of 4G speeds, but it also has a large 4.3-inch display,... Read more...
Sprint continuously brags about its flagship 4G Android phone the HTC Evo. It is a great piece of hardware, but it is also a relatively large device with a premium price tag. Enter the HTC Evo Shift, currently Sprint's least expensive Android 4G phone. The Shift runs Android 2.2, includes a slide-out keyboard and is noticeably smaller than the EVO and Sprint's other slide-out 3G/4G phone, the Samsung Epic (see specs below). The Shift is also priced at $150 (with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate) compared to $199 for the HTC Evo and the Samsung Epic. It is a responsive, well performing smartphone that we liked in many ways. But, in exchange for the slide-out keyboard and lower price, it... Read more...
Asus definitely made a splash at this year's CES with their onslaught of sexy tablet PCs.  We were expecting to see a healthy offering from Asus and weren't disappointed.  However, what was more impressive were the designs Asus stepped out with that broke the plain old slate mold.  Our favorite perhaps, at least until we can get a closer look when we review these units, was the Slider.  Here May from Asus demos this new cool 10-inch Android slate with a super thin slide out keyboard... Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for a our detailed evaluation.  For now, it's time to say goodbye to sunny Las Vegas and head back east.  One word - yay.... Read more...
Earlier this week, Lenovo revealed a handful of new offerings. Today, we got a chance to see all of Lenovo’s latest products in person. Lenovo’s new IdeaPad U1 Hybrid with LePad Slate definitely had us excited earlier in the week, and it’s looking good in person too. This 2-in-1 device combines a slate with a Snapdragon processor and Android with a keyboard base and full Windows 7 functionality. The slate portion of the U1 Hybrid has a 10.1-inch panel and feels good in your hand. The base unit turns the slate into a laptop of sorts. Although we won’t see the IdeaPad U1 for a little while here in the States, we’re definitely anxious for this baby to hit the market.... Read more...
Sprint's marketing campaigns over the past few months have focused on the fact that the carrier was the first to launch a 4G network in the U.S. Building on that, the company has focused on the various things you can do with a 4G connection that weren't possible (or at least weren't very usable) without a fourth generation high-speed mobile broadband connection. In keeping along with the "first" concept, Sprint announced the HTC EVO 4G—the world's first 3G/4G Android smartphone, would be available on their network.  Although the EVO 4G may no longer be the only 3G/4G handset around (it has since been joined in Sprint's lineup by the Samsung Epic), the EVO 4G is still only one of two... HTC let fly with their Windows Phone 7 lineup a month or so ago but to date we haven't gotten much in the way of hands-on time with the devices.  Monday night in NYC, home of yet another disappointed New York Jets team (Go Pats), we got a little up close and personal with HTC's sexy new HD7 smartphone.  The HD7 is currently offered on T-Mobile, it has a 4.3-inch super AMOLED display, 1GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 processor, 5MP camera and a kick-stand.  You heard us correctly, a kickstand - got a problem with that?  We didn't think so. Regardless, what's perhaps more impressive is how responsive and easy to use this sleek little minx is, with Windows Phone 7 offering a UI experience... Read more...
