Gizmodo thought they had come up with a way to fool iTunes into giving them an extended video rental.  They tried mucking with the system clock when downloading the video.  Oops, they were wrong.Alright so it appears to no longer work. Here's what happened on our end. Before, we had set our computer date to 2009, and started playing Ratatouille (and Benny started playing The Simpsons) to start the 24-hour timer in 2009. Came back to 2008, everything was gravy. We go to play it again just a few minutes ago, and it tries to connect to iTunes, and then gives us a 5103 error. Benny gets the same deal. While we still don't know if the R700 will be known as the Radeon 48xx, 39xx or some other nomenclature, it seems that the first R700 GPUs actually 'taped out' sometime in December.  As with all rumors, we remind you to take the following with a grain of salt:“[the] R700 is in the process of being fabbed now, or at least its components are. The component thing is a story for another day, the part that matters is that R700 bits are in the oven now and things appear to be going swimmingly, or at least skatingly if you know what Toronto is like in the winter.”This could mean products on shelves in March if the parts perform well and no flaws are found in the design.... There is a rumor that the Eee PC is going to get a successor sometime in the new year.  Keep in mind that this is just a rumor, but the upgrade could be fairly extensive.  Early reports suggest that new Eee(e?) PC would feature a larger 8.9” screen, WiMAX, and could very well ride on Intel's new Menlow UMPC platform.“Should ASUS choose to adopt the Menlow platform for the next generation Eee PC, huge power saving will be realized for users. 2007 is shaping up to be the first year when spending on cellphone services surpasses the cost of land line phones, according to a study by the US government and backed up by industry information. Anybody with a teenage girl at home has known this was coming for quite some time.  "What we're finding is there's a huge move of people giving up their land line service altogether and using cell phones exclusively," said Allyn Hall, consumer research director for market research firm In-Stat. Western Digital is a big fan of text files, and assumes you are too. As any readers of the comic strip Zits knows, text messages are the bane of parents of teenagers. However, it's also increased the amount of repetitive stress injuries people get (in their thumbs anyway), created new (and lame) ways of firing people, and even contributed to fatal accidents. MRAM stands for magnetoresistive random access memory. NEC recently announced that they've  developed an SRAM compatible MRAM  that can run at 250 MHz, which they claim is the fastest MRAM in the world.  MRAM is swell because it's non-volatile: it remembers what you just told it even if you turn the power off.  If it's as fast as SRAM there's no competition.The unique MRAM was designed and fabricated by NEC and has a memory capacity of 1 megabit. According to reports, AMD will move away from mega-GPU chips with their next release, codenamed R700.Modern graphics processors rely on extensive amounts of parallelism to get calculations done as quickly as possible, but those GPUs are still monolithic chips designed with a given number of stream processors, texture units, render back-ends, and the like, each depending on their performance grade. However, the folks at Fudzilla say they have it on good authority that AMD will challenge that paradigm with its next-generation graphics processor, code-named R700. The OLPC Foundation's XO-1 laptop is for disadvantaged and needy children in developing nations.  Normal users couldn't buy one, until the "Give One, Get One" program.The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Foundation's "Give One, Get One" Program (G1G1), which enabled end users to get an XO-1 for themselves, while at the same time donating an XO-1, was originally scheduled to run from Nov. 12 - Nov. 26. Thirty million transistors on the head of a pin.  Think about that for a minute.  Where on earth can you fit 30 million of anything in that amount of space?  It used to be that 30 million transistors was a good-sized chip.  These days, in a 45nm Hafnium-based High-K process, it almost seems like we (OK, OK, Intel...) can defy the laws of physics.  We're talking rocket science here people.
