Toshiba backed the HD DVD format against Sony's rival Blu-ray high-definition disc method, and Toshiba lost. One wonders whether Sony might ask themselves from time to time if it might have been better to have lost. More or less, no one wants a Blu-ray player. Sales of Blu-ray players, excluding PlayStation 3 game consoles, dropped 40 percent from January to February in the U.S., according to NPD. Sales grew only 2 percent from February to March. We've just received word from Intel, that on September 5, they will announce the winners of the 2nd annual Intel Game Demo Contest. Nearly $100,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded in two categories: Best Threaded Game and Best Game on the Go. Intel Science Talent Search Winners Announced Mary Masterman of Oklahoma City Awarded $100,000 Intel Scholarship SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 13, 2007 - Innovation was the word of the day as Intel announced the winners of the Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS). The top award, a $100,000 scholarship from the Intel Foundation, went to Mary Masterman, 17, who built an accurate spectrograph that identifies the specific characteristics - or "fingerprints" - of different kinds of molecules.
