It might be called the HTC Volantis, but what it's set to become is the next tablet in Google's Nexus line. Dubbed Nexus 9, this 8.9-inch tablet is expected to feature a 2048x1440 resolution (281 ppi), 2GB of RAM, 16 and 32GB storage options, an 8 megapixel camera at the back and a 3 megapixel one up front, front-facing speakers, and could weigh 418g, or 427g if it's the LTE model. There's one spec I saved for last, because it's the most interesting: The Nexus 9 will feature NVIDIA's Tegra K1. As we discovered in our look at NVIDIA's SHIELD Tablet, the K1 can create the fastest tablet on earth, and to see HTC pick up on it for the next Nexus is a great thing for NVIDIA. It's worth noting that... Read more...
At first, we had to double check our calendars to ensure that it wasn't the dawn of April. Nope -- this one's the real deal. Lenovo's Horizon Table PC is already a pretty unique take on the tablet + oversized sit-down desktop, but it's about to get even more so. Lenovo today introduced three new table concepts that are meant to house the Horizon Table PC. The company is showcasing the commissioned custom table designs – "The Treehouse" built for the 21st century playroom, "The Nest" for the modern living room and "AT-UM" for the digital workshop at the 25th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair. The image shown here is the Treehouse. And yes, that's what a Horizon Table PC would... Read more...
Are you looking for a new dining room table? What about a new dining room tablet? What about a combination of both? Ideum has just revealed what may be the most incredible table your home could ever imagine, but it's likely overkill for most. Packed within the MT-55 (also known as "The Platform) is a full-blown PC, with a Core i5/i7 CPU, RAM, storage, and Windows 7 Pro. That computer is necessary to run the 55" touch panel on top, which touts over 30 touch points and basically turns whatever room you place it in into a multi-touch extravaganza. The top part of the table measures just 3" thick, and the resolution is 1080p. The table is obvious marketed towards businesses and folks with gobs of... Read more...
In just a few weeks, Apple will finally release its much hyped iPad to the public, and if Apple has its way, the iPad will do for the tablet space what the iPod did for media player market and iPhone did for the smartphone sector. In other words, it will set the bar by which all competitor products are measured, no matter how loud the anti-Apple sentiment resonates from die-hard PC (as in, Windows-based) fans. But here's the thing. Unlike Apple's previous products, which could be considered groundbreaking in one way or another at the time of release, the iPad isn't exactly revolutionary and leaves the door open for competitors to jump in with a better product. Could HP's Slate fit the bill?"With... Read more...
The MOTO Development Group has just released what may be the coolest thing to hit a casino floor in decades. The group is calling its new Multi-Touch BlackJack table a "world's first," and gamers will soon be able to experience it at the Global Gaming Expo 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. As of now, the prototype table can run BlackJack and Texas Hold 'Em, and honestly, those two are really the only games you need when you're playing for chips. The team took an atypical approach to creating this; instead of embedding individual screens in a standard size blackjack table, this concept creates a "seamless virtual table gaming experience that automates the betting process, physical cards, and card-shoes."... Oh, well. It sounded so good, and it would have been, too: Gmail adding, through its Labs, the ability to send SMS messages through Gmail Chat and at the same time associate a permanent phone number with your account. Normally, a temporary ID is set, but this would have enabled you and your friends to SMS back and forth without worry. You would have been assigned a number in the 406 area code once you sent your first SMS message. However, Google found a bug, and had to pull back the feature. According to their blog post: Oh snap. Last night, we started rolling out a new feature to Gmail Labs that lets you send SMS text messages right from Gmail. It combines the best parts of IM and texting: you... Read more...
Borrowing from Microsoft's Surface concept, Canadian-based SMART Technologies has designed a multi-touch table designed specifically for the preschool to sixth grade primary educational sector. The SMART Table features a multi-touch-enabled, tabletop 27-inch screen, with an internal projection system and integrated PC. The idea behind the SMART Table is that it gets kids to collaborate with each other while solving problems and playing educational games with an interactive system. "The SMART Table provides a learner-centric experience for small groups that allows students to select or move objects, draw or write on the screen simultaneously, and work together to find answers to preset questions."... Today we’ve got a detailed look at Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X200.  Though it may appear that the X200 is an offshoot of Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300, the ThinkPad X200 is actually more of a successor and direct descendant of their ThinkPad X61 line.  This is clearly evident both in the X200's design and its specifications. Lenovo’s X300 tries to be as compact and feature-rich as possible, sacrificing raw computing power to present a fully featured notebook in an amazingly compact frame.   However, the X200, just like the X61 before it, takes the opposite approach, sacrificing some size and features to preserve compute power.  Built on Intel's new Centrino 2 platform, the ThinkPad... The Lenovo ThinkPad X300, released earlier this year, was quite an exciting product and Hot Hardware wasn't the only publication to award it an Editor's Choice (our review). With its svelte form-factor, LED backlighting, solid state hard drive and unique, ultra thin optical drive, the X300 is a standout product packed full of cutting edge technologies that is unmatched by many other notebooks in its class. Even Apple's lauded Macbook Air is no match, when it comes to pure utility and function. While the X300 may be a best-in-class product, with its relatively slow 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SL7100 processor and a $2,300 price tag, it probably isn't the most sensible purchase if power... You gotta love Steve Ballmer. He's like the crazy uncle at the family reunion that wants to sing karaoke with a lampshade on his head. I imagine that when the Washington Post asked for a wide-ranging interview with the Microsoft CEO, they figured they'd get all sorts of inside spin in Ballmer's tussle with Yahoo! chief Jerry Yang, or maybe a sneak peek into Ballmer's future vision for Microsoft. Ballmer was pretty tight-lipped about his opinion of Yang, and Microsoft's future, for a change. But he was more than willing to tell the Post that there would be no such thing as print media in a decade or so. Awkward. In the next 10 years, the whole world of media, communications and advertising are... Read more...
