As the wearable computing market continues to heat up, Pebble is looking to distinguish itself a bit with a premium edition of its smartwatch. While the original Pebble was somewhat sporty, bordering on cute, the Steel is designed to be a more fashionable accessory--less tech chic and more traditionally classy. The Steel is actually smaller and thinner than the original Pebble and has a Corning Gorilla Glass face with an anti-fingerprint coating. It’s waterproof up to 5 ATM and comes in a brushed stainless steel finish and a black matte finish with a matching metal and black leather wristband (your choice--both come with either version of the watch). Gaming mouse pads have been around for years. Companies producing them have arrived and departed, and styles have come and gone, but there's no question that the demand for specialized gaming pads remains. The next company trying to get in on the action is Rude Gameware, which has just introduced one of the wildest, most rugged gaming mouse pads that we have ever seen. Unlike a lot of the slick surfaces that are out there promising increased accuracy for snipers, the Fierce Teflon & Steel Mouse Surface actually uses the famed DuPont Teflon technology in order to make this particular pad resistant to all sorts of issues. Rude claims that this new pad offers the smoothest mousing surface ever,... Read more...
At this point, you've got to do something pretty special for your HDTV to stand out. After all, an HDTV is an HDTV, right? With nearly every set these days--from the cheapest to the most expensive--boasting a 1080p panel a frame that's at least marginally thin, the over-crowded market is becoming tougher and tougher to penetrate. Toshiba's newest panel, however, is quite the looker, and we'd say it does a stellar job of separating itself from the pack. Designed with kitchens and modern appliances in mind, the company's 19LV612U--which is the first set in the Stainless Style TV Series--is doused in a stunning stainless steel coating. The outfit makes it fit right into the modern-industrial look... Read more...
So Apple cut the price on the iPhone to just a leg. The iPhone is never going to get more than a few percent of market share for phones anyway. We all know what its really competition for: the Blackberry. Slate's Paul Boutin examines the real tussle for the iPhone, which is getting people that type with their thumbs to switch. He takes a fair look at both, likes the iPhone a lot, but it's the Crackberry for him. Aside from the obvious benefits of Visual Voicemail, it's hard to conjure a scenario in which any of the iPhone's gee-whiz features will help you get any work done. Multitouch is fun to play around with, and it's neat to rotate the screen from portrait to landscape. I'm skeptical that... Read more...

Good afternoon HotHardware Fans!  I apologize for the late start today.  I've been sorting, sizing, and organizing a couple of hundred images for a huge Socket 939 motherboard round-up we have in the queue, and I lost track of the time!  It's a good thing I came to my senses though, because I've got a date with the Science Channel tonight that I definitely don't want to miss. For a third-degree uber-geek like myself (I say that proudly), it doesn't get much better than watching 2 hours of Stephen Hawking discussing the origins of the universe.  If you've got the time tonight, and get the Science Channel, I'd highly recommend checking out the specials tonight.  Then tomorrow...
