Back in June of this year, Hyundai Motor Group acquired a controlling interest in Boston Dynamics, the robotics experts who have put out several entertaining videos highlighting some remarkable robot capabilities (laugh now, cry later when the robot overlords flip the script). One of their more popular creations is Spot, the goodest-of-boys in the robot realm. What is Spot up to these days? Patrolling a Kia plant in South Korea. Hyundai has kicked off a pilot program called "Factory Safety Service Robot," which is based on Spot, the quadruped robot that has seen plenty of action (even in French military exercises). It's basically Spot with a new role and some new tricks, and a special task—patrol... Read more...
Whatever plans you might have today, carve out around 16 minutes of your time to watch to a hilarious YouTube video that will be the greatest thing you view today, this week, and maybe even all month. What has us so excited? It's a dog that seeks out red Solo cups and then pees beer into them. Like, for real. What the hell kind of breed is that? The robotic breed, of course! Trust us, there's no living, breathing dog that can urinate delicious beer into a cup. You're free to sample all the dog pee you want, but we highly recommend against it. If that is something you are really interested in, you'll need to procure Spot, the agile robotic canine developed by Boston Dynamics, and then get busy... Read more...
The last time we saw Spot, an adorable robotic canine (of sorts) developed by Boston Dynamics, it was doing Fortnite victory dances alongside a couple of Atlas robots. Perhaps adding to its list of tricks, Spot has now spent some time with the French army as part of a two-day exercise, in which several robots are being tested to see how they can help, and to discover any potential vulnerabilities. Boston Dynamics built Spot several years ago. In the early going, it was shown opening doors and withstanding "disturbances" by humans, like having its tail pulled and being whacked with a hockey stick. There is a certain uneasy feeling in some of the Boston Dynamics demonstrations, which is a credit... Read more...
Boston Dynamics has built some fantastic robots over the years, and though we often joke about an inevitable uprising in the vein of Skynet, their is a ton of engineering that goes into making these contraptions highly useful in the right settings. Serving as a reminder, hospitals are reaching out to Boston Dynamics about using its robots in healthcare settings to reduce staff exposure to COVID-19. A robot called Spot is answering the call. As we all know, healthcare workers are on the front lines of the Coronavirus pandemic and can use all the help they can get. To assist with a shortage of supplies, companies like Intel and Razer are donating masks and money, while boutique PC builder Maingear... Read more...
