It is never too early for rumors of the next iPhone iteration, right? So it goes in the land of smartphones—leaks, rumors, and speculation constantly abound. As it pertains to Apple's bread and butter device, there is talk of a 2020 model iPhone getting a display upgrade with a refresh rate than can be switched from 60Hz to 120Hz. Nothing is set in stone, and the chatter is not coming from Apple directly. However, moving to a 120Hz panel would give Apple an enticing bullet point to market at enthusiasts and gamers alike. As it stands, the majority of smartphones that have a 120Hz display (and there are not a ton of them) are gaming phones, like the just-announced ASUS ROG Phone II. Outside... Read more...
Apple is still embracing the tablet form-factor, and that is readily apparent with the new all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which replaces the previous generation 9.7-inch model. The 10.5-inch iPad is largely able to keep the same dimensions and weight of its predecessor by shrinking the bezels to accommodate the larger display. The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro joins a refreshed 12.9-inch model, both of which include TrueTone displays that are 50 percent brighter. The displays also incorporate ProMotion technology, which is just a fancy way of saying that they have a refresh rate of 120Hz instead of 60Hz. The faster refresh rate also means that “inking” with the Apple Pencil is even faster and smoother... Read more...

Microsoft announced a new discount program on Thursday, one that would allow eligible students to get a $30 price on Windows 7 Home Premium (upgrade).  There is also a mention of Windows 7 Professional, but it is unclear from the site what the price on that product would be. The program, announced via Twitter, is similar to other such student discount programs Microsoft has run in the past.  It also follows an earlier, less generous pre-order campaign, where consumers could pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Home Professional upgrades for 50% off.  That program ended on July 11th, however. The program's website is here. Unless you want to spend an extra $13, the delivery... Read more...

To refer someone, go to Sprint's web site and send an email to your friend(s). If your friend buys a new Sprint... Read more...
Gasoline being given away?  In this age of $4 a gallon gasoline in the U.S., and much higher prices in Europe and elsewhere, would you riot over it?  All right, it wasn't a riot, but it sure as heck was gridlock.Electronic Arts was trying to promote the Mercenaries 2: World in Flames game.  And the promotion was free gasoline (or petrol, as the BBC prefers).  Publicity they wanted, and publicity they got, but not all positive.Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, said: "Whilst a lucky few might have got free petrol, hundreds of residents have faced misery". The Liberal Democrat said: "Trying to recreate Venezuelan-style fuel riots on the streets of London is completely... Read more...
